Tim Panaccio is reporting Paul Holmgren was hospitalized after a serious bike (bicycle) accident earlier today in Avalon. According to Panotch, Holmgren suffered broken ribs, a broken shoulder, and other injuries. He was taken to Cooper Medical Center, where he remains.

Sounds like the Flyers will have more info tomorrow. We obviously wish Homer the best. So does Bryz:

John Clark says he will be OK.

Moyer Injured, Career May Be Over

Kyle Scott - November 7, 2010

Jamie Moyer's career is probably over.  He injured his left elbow during his third start in the Dominican Winter League last night.

His team's manager, former Major Leaguer Moises Alou, told reporters that the injury was career threatening. There are not a lot of details yet, however, at this point, it's quite possible that his arm fell off. Moyer will fly to California to see Dr. Lewis Yocum.

Sad day for Jamie, but it might be time to hang it up.

Ryan Howard Injured

Kyle Scott - August 1, 2010

Ryan Howard left the 1st inning of today's game with a sprained left ankle.  X-rays on the ankle and his right elbow (from being hit by a pitch in the first inning) were both negative.

He twisted the ankle awkwardly going back into the second base bag.

Looks like he dodged a serious bullet here, but sprains can be lasting injuries.

MLB managed to have the most unprofessional tweet possible about the pic above:

Thanks, dicks.

Utley Has an Injured Right Hand

Kyle Scott - June 28, 2010

Utley_injured

According to Charlie Manuel, Chase Utley injured his right thumb sliding into second (on the play he was called out on) and will have an MRI tomorrow.

This is not good.

Takes us back to the whole "hurt" "injured" debate from a couple of weeks ago.

BREAKING NEWS: Carter and Gagne Out For Game Five, UPDATE Carter done for year

Kyle - April 21, 2010

Gagne

UPDATE:  Both will have surgery, Carter done for year.  Gagne will miss 3 weeks, by then I'm thinking the Flyers will be done.  No word on whether or not this will affect Carter's partying at the shore this summer.

As per CSNPhilly.com, Simon Gagne and
Jeff Carter are out for game 5 against the Devils on Thursday night.
Gagne fracturing a toe on his right foot and Carter, after fracturing
his left foot in March, now believes he may have fractured his right
foot and has an upper-right leg injury. Go figure!

We need these guys healthy if we're to make a run at this thing, but I
am guessing you already knew that.

Jimmy Rollins Has a Torn Calf, Going on DL

Kyle Scott - April 14, 2010

Rollins

"He's hurt pretty bad", according to Charlie Manuel.

Ryan Lawrence from the Delco Times has the full story.  Charlie Manuel told reporters Rollins has a 2nd degree calf tear, and is hurt pretty bad.  Ruben Amaro estimates he will 2-4 weeks on the DL.

Ladies and gentlemen, meet your new Phillies shortstop, Juan Castro.  The Phillies have also called up Wilson Valdez.

Rollins with Grade 2 Calf Strain

Kyle - April 12, 2010

Jimmy-rollins

Update:  Jimmy Rollins will have an MRI tomorrow with a grade 2 calf strain.  Jayson Werth will not, told Leslie Gudel he came out as a precaution after hurting right hip.  Wonder if Rollins will participate in the Red Bull challenge scheduled for the parkway… doubt it.

In the first injury to force a regular out of action this season, Jimmy Rollins was a last-minute scratch today's lineup card due to a right calf strain suffered during pre-game warmups.

Adding to the Phils' injury woes, Jayson Werth left the game with a left hip injury. He was slow getting to first base on his final at bat after single to CF.

Thankfully neither injury sounds too serious, but I'm sure since it's early in the season, they will ease them back into the lineup. There is no need to risk something getting worse if rest will help. It also is fortunate that on the schedule they have only the Nationals and an open date (kind of the same thing) between now and Friday.
