Did We Just See Our First Glimpse of a Red Sixers Jersey?

Chris Jastrzembski - September 7, 2017

Unfortunately, the jersey is on the far side of this video taken at some Chinese event showing off NBA uniforms. Here’s the link to Weibo, which most certainly WILL NOT jack up your computer with all those foreign characters and Flash pop-ups.

It could be a Clippers jersey, but resident NBA design expert – AND CROSSING BROAD T-SHIRT DESIGNER – Conrad Burry thinks it could be a throwback to Doug Collins-70s era Sixers:

Back in August, when the team released their “Association” and “Icon” jerseys, Kyle mentioned the team would have a red jersey and a sweet fourth alternate. The fourth jersey might also debut with a special court.

If there’s a red version of this look, count me in as being highly in favor of it. I would love the Sixers to stick with the style of the shorts with the “76” on it as well. The “76” with the 13 stars above it is such as solid look.

Kyle: This font is garbage and makes me physically ill. Like every time I see it I think someone put masking tape on the letters. Don’t put masking tape on the letters. Do not like. I reserve the right to change my opinion when the Sixers frame in cool marketing speak and put it on Ben Simmons, who explains to me why it represents the core tenants of our city and also absorbs sweat unlike anything he’s ever worn before.]

Higher or Lower: Mets Fan’s Salary or Number on His Customized Phillies Replica?

Kyle Scott - July 22, 2013

Never been kissed

Never been kissed

A Mets fan, presumably one who resides in or around a place called Flushing, New York, and who roots for a team that hasn’t finished with a record of over .500 in five years, thought it would be a good idea to spend his hard-earned plumbing money on a customized jersey (~$100*) commemorating the Phillies’ MLB-leading (now)10,424 losses. He also doesn’t remove the stickers from his New Era hats.

Our fashion editor Dan Fuller took the photo in New York this weekend and explained his subject thusly:

A Mets fan was wearing this awesome custom Phillies jersey. This is a commitment to hating the Phillies more than I’ve ever seen before. He had this super-custom jersey made only to wear when the Phillies play the Mets. It is beautiful, like if Michelangelo made his David out of garbage.

I’d say something like “troll jersey,” but “troll” gets overused… and the guy wearing it was actually very friendly.**

Although personalized jerseys are on my top five most awful things in sports list, may I recommend the following, if you are so inclined to waste your money on one:

This throwback commemorates the 2007 Mets. The color black, chosen because it seemed appropriate.

*At least. MLB’s website only allows you two digits for the number. This guy had outside help– five digits and a comma! That’s black market shit.

**Dan requested that being that the guy was friendly, I take it easy on him. So I did. I originally had him pegged as “out on work release.”

Dan Fuller Gives His Extraordinarily Lengthy and Comprehensive Review of the Union’s New Kit

I asked our fashion editor, Dan Fuller, if he wanted to review the Union’s new alternate kit, which was unveiled yesterday at Xfinity Live! Philadelphia Exclamation Points. Dan, usually not at a loss for words (LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS OF THEM), responded thusly. It is now our review.

There you have it– indifference and too much Bimbo. It’s like a bad night at the club (perhaps with Sebastien Le Toux?).

The kit pays homage to some team you’ve never heard of Bethlehem Steel, the local soccer club that won the hearts and minds had a few fans back around the time Rose was getting plowed by Leo on the Titanic (1911-1930).

A ridiculous video from Adidas, full of all sorts of marketing BS, after the jump.

Bernie Parent just keeps living the life. Last night, he was seated with WAYNE GRETZKY at the Flyers-Maple Leafs game. Pictures via reader Mike, who is in the Flyers jersey, who will almost certainly tell me what the two legends talked about???

King Dunlap’s Daughter Wore a Cowboys Jersey on Sunday

Kyle Scott - November 14, 2012

Earlier today we brought you Joe Conklin’s musical tribute to King Dunlap, who does his best to lose football games. But not even Dunlap would stand for his kin actively rooting for the Cowboys. No, sir. No chance in hell. One reader, claiming to have access to Dunlap’s baby mama’s Facebook page (she’s currently listed as single), sent along these pictures, one of which is an Instagram of Dunlap, just an hour before kickoff on Sunday, reacting to his daughter being dressed in Cowboys gear for the big game:

So perhaps when King ran off the field, leaving the Eagles with only 10 players for an important field goal attempt, he was just trying to make his daughter smile, wherever she may be.

And yes, I do hate myself a little for posting this.

Michael Vick Goes Undercover at Modell’s

Kyle Scott - July 24, 2012

Like DeSean Jackson and Jrue Holiday before him, Michael Vick, whose new V7 clothing line is being sold exclusively at Modell’s, took part in a publicity stunt for the sporting goods store.

Here’s Vick – er, Victor - working undercover at Modell’s. Like D-Jac (and unlike Holiday), Vick was easily recognized. Of course, those guys went undercover at local Modell’s stores. Megastar Vick? Times Square.

Perhaps not surpsingly, some are against Modell’s working with Vick. There is a Change.org petition protesting the “glorifying of a dog killer.” So far, it has 4,697 signatures out of 10,000.

Jersey Foul: Flyers Fan Wears “The Black Guy” Simmonds Jersey to Game

Not even sure how to react here. My first reaction was to chuckle, mostly because someone had the balls to get this made. The second reaction – and probably the correct one – was to just shake my head. It’s one thing to acknowledge (and perhaps even joke about) black hockey players, since there are so few of them (currently 28), but it’s another thing to walk around the Wells Fargo Center wearing Wayne Simmonds’ #17 with a nameplate reading “The Black Guy.”

There’s a big difference between acknowledging the fact that the Flyers have a black player on their roster and going out of your way to point it out. Clearly, this guy lacks the undefinable filter that discriminates between humorous social commentary and just being an idiot.

This of course comes just a few days after Simmonds gave his thoughts on hockey fans hurling the n-word around Twitter in response to Capitals forward Joel Ward scoring the Game 7 winner against the Bruins.

These People Are Clearly Not Jeff Carter Fans

The Kings return to Columbus tonight. Earlier, we told you about the promotion the Blue Jackets were running. You could take your Carter jersey and have the nameplate switched to "J. Johnson."

The reaction from above is probably from a few fans who didn't have a number 7 jersey to return.
