Crossing Broadcast and Snow The Goalie

Russ Joy - December 16, 2019

Crossing Broadcast: “So You’re Saying There’s a Chance?”

Bob, Anthony, and Russ reflect on wins over the Giants and Redskins, including Carson Wentz’s clutch game-winning drives, Greg Ward and Boston Scott’s play, and whether it’s fair to believe in the Eagles. The guys share their thoughts on the Phillies’ signing of Zack Wheeler and Didi Gregorius, if the Phillies are much better than they were a season ago, whether they can and will make a big trade to make themselves a contender. They then take a macro view of the Sixers’ recent run, whether the loss to the Nets means anything, trade targets, and competing with Milwaukee. Finally, a blueprint to beat the Cowboys.

Joel Farabee Continues to Prove He Belongs

Russ Joy - November 4, 2019

Programming note: Joel Farabee will be joining Anthony and Russ on Snow The Goalie Radio this evening on 610 ESPN Radio.

It’s been exactly two weeks since Joel Farabee made his debut for the Orange & Black ahead of what turned out to be a 6-2 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights. The team was 2-3-1 at the time of the call-up and the 19-year-old winger was on a three-game goalscoring streak to go with an assist, good for four points in his first four games with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. While it would’ve been understandable for Farabee to sulk after failing to make the opening night roster, he did exactly the opposite, putting up the second-most points on the team to start the AHL season while also leading all AHL rookies in goals. The fear of many at that time was that the Flyers were grasping at straws, hoping that a streaking young player would somehow turn around the team’s fortunes.

That fear was quickly cast aside as Farabee immediately impressed his head coach and teammates with his relentless energy. Following that win over Vegas, Flyers head coach Alain Vigneault said of the winger:

The Flyers’ Future Looks Bright Ahead of the 2019-20 Season

Russ Joy - September 29, 2019

If you haven’t followed the team’s preseason, don’t feel bad. On the results side, they finished the NHL portion of their preseason 1-2-3, with Monday’s game against Lausanne HC in Switzerland standing between them and the Chicago Blackhawks. In addition to Kevin Hayes’ stellar play, the biggest story to come out of this preseason has been the development of a number of young players. Here’s what you might have missed:

Carter Hart’s Been a Stud in Net

He stopped 56 of 57 shots faced in the preseason, one that began with fans and pundits wondering aloud if he’d be able to follow up an impressive rookie campaign. His pregame routine was also a highlight of NHL Network’s Behind the Glass: Training Camp with the Philadelphia Flyers:

Morgan Frost: Down, but (maybe) not out

Morgan Frost is one of the most highly-touted prospects in the Flyers’ system, and -especially following Nolan Patrick’s migraine disorder diagnosis– one who fans wanted to see make the team. However, he saw his preseason get cut short due to a groin strain. He’s been since sent down to the AHL to begin the season with the Phantoms, though I’d say there’s a chance he gets called back up when healthy, especially if Nolan Patrick’s absence continues further into the regular season than anticipated. Frost’s biggest asset is his vision, which some have compared to a young Claude Giroux. He racked up 37 goals and 72 assists a year ago for the OHL’s Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, as well as eight points (4G/4A) in five games with Canada’s U20 squad at World Juniors. He put that same skill on display this preseason and figures to do the same this year with the Phantoms and/or Flyers.

Despite 0 Points, Joel Farabee Backs Up the Hype
