Unfortunately, Things Don’t Look Good for Leonard Weaver

Leonard Weaver Knee Injury

The lovable Leonard Weaver has been battling a serious knee injury, a result of the screenshot above, and it's highly unlikely he will ever play football again. The injury, for those who don't remember, occurred on his first carry of the 2010 season.

Though Weaver did not play in Philly for an extended period of time, he has always had a strong bond with the city and the fan base. He is a perfect example of an athlete who "gets it." Get us.

In a great article written by Les Bowen of, Weaver commented on his mandatory physical exam that he had to go through with Peter DeLuca, the head physician for the Eagles:

DeLuca was upbeat about the progress Weaver had made since their last meeting in July. But then DeLuca had Weaver "dorsiflex" his foot – basically, bring his toes closer to his shin. While the movement was improved from July, it still wasn't normal. Or as Weaver put it a few hours after exiting the complex, maybe for good: "I failed. My foot didn't work."

Weaver reacted to the story by Bowen, and in typical Weave fashion, showed the fans some love:

As usual, that last Tweet left us searching for the punchline. But, for real, Weave was always one of the good guys, and we wish him nothing but the best.

After that heaviness, a moment of levity:

Destroy away, Big Weave. Destroy away.

Your All Too Serious Football News: Buddy Ryan Has Cancer, Leonard Weaver Says NFL Players Are Treated Like Slaves

Kyle Scott - March 23, 2011

According to the NY Daily News, Buddy Ryan has cancer. Again.

Rex Ryan told the paper about his father's cancer, but wouldn't say what type of cancer it was. He did, however, say that it wasn't melanoma, which Ryan has had twice before: [NY Daily News]

"He's 80 years old, but he's doing great. He's tougher than shit," Ryan said of his father, who actually turned 77 last month. "He's had other things in his life. He overcame encephalitis. He's overcome cancer twice. He's tough."

Get well soon, Buddy.

Now… on to the ridiculous.

Leonard Weaver joined Adrian Peterson in saying that NFL players are treated like slaves: [Philly Sports Daily]

“We need to see some equal opportunity here, and stop treating us – as Adrian Peterson said – like slaves,” said Weaver.

Oh boy. Now we're back to this weird dynamic where white writers opine about black athletes who said something racist about their own race. Weaver took to Twitter – as only Weaver could – to apologize for his statements:

On my way to therapy, listening to some music getting ready for the day.

Tidy is gonna be a tough one…..working on both calf and knee, with a combination of lifting. I'm about to get my bigman on.

Hey everyone I'm here in therapy an I have seen the recording of the interview…. And I will have to say that I'm very disappointed in the whole interview an the comments I made. I first want to apologizes for the bad choice ode words, and using the word slavery. Now, that I have seen it, I will say that it was hard for me to watch and after thinking about it, I've come to the conclusion that…..I represented my family, friends and organization the wrong way. I'm sorry for those words I used and if I offend anyone, please forgive me. To all my fans whom I've disappointed I'm sorry.

I came off the wrong way, but I want to explain myself. And I will….

I think, as humans, we can all survive without beating this dead horse. Weav had a bad choice of words and apologized for it. There are worse and more off-base analogies to use (meaning: we get the sentiment), but the problem is that relating anything to slavery will undoubtedly cause Al Sharpton to flinch- wherever he may be.

Let's move on.

Happy Valentines Day, Weave

And yeah, no homo.

Brent Celek Would Like the NFL and Union to Stop Bickering Through the Media, Weaver Watches Nick Toons

Perhaps for the same reason Brent complains about it via Twitter…

Meanwhile, in Weave's World:

Love Leonard.

Leonard Weaver Talks About His Injury

Kyle Scott - September 13, 2010

The more I listen to Leonard Weaver talk, and his outlook on things, the more I respect the guy. We picked on some of his Twitter rants and we were wrong to do so.  By all accounts from Eagles writers, he is an unbelievable person.  We wish him the best.

Video: Leonard Weaver’s Gruesome Knee Injury

Kyle Scott - September 12, 2010

We make fun of Leonard Weaver a lot for his less than verbose tweets, but by all accounts he is a good, religious dude, who does a lot for charity.  It's a real shame to see him suffer such a serious knee injury.

Video after the jump.  Caution, it's gruesome- knee bending backwards type stuff.

Name Leonard Weaver’s Dog

Kyle Scott - September 7, 2010

In case it hasn't been jammed down your throat enough, yesterday began the "Name Leonard Weaver's Dog" contest.  For only $25 you have can have the privilege of submitting an option for the 22-week-old bulldog's name.  The winner will be chosen next month and given limo transportation to watch an Eagles home game from Leonard's personal suite, along with a meet and greet with the fullback.

Just think, if your name is chosen, your suggestion can appear in surefire, concise Weaver tweets like:

______ just pooped.

I Put a leash on _______.

_______ ate my playbook.

Today is a great day, _______ licked me.

_______ is eating Kibbles.

For real for a second, all donations go to charity and the dog is cute as all hell, so pony up a few bucks.

They’rrrrrrrrrrrrrre Great!

Kyle Scott - September 2, 2010

Life is great!  The Eagles are great!  Leonard Weaver is great!

Uhh, we must have been watching different games.  The Eagles first-team offense scored one preseason touchdown.
