The Flyers’ Future Looks Bright Ahead of the 2019-20 Season

Russ Joy - September 29, 2019

If you haven’t followed the team’s preseason, don’t feel bad. On the results side, they finished the NHL portion of their preseason 1-2-3, with Monday’s game against Lausanne HC in Switzerland standing between them and the Chicago Blackhawks. In addition to Kevin Hayes’ stellar play, the biggest story to come out of this preseason has been the development of a number of young players. Here’s what you might have missed:

Carter Hart’s Been a Stud in Net

He stopped 56 of 57 shots faced in the preseason, one that began with fans and pundits wondering aloud if he’d be able to follow up an impressive rookie campaign. His pregame routine was also a highlight of NHL Network’s Behind the Glass: Training Camp with the Philadelphia Flyers:

Morgan Frost: Down, but (maybe) not out

Morgan Frost is one of the most highly-touted prospects in the Flyers’ system, and -especially following Nolan Patrick’s migraine disorder diagnosis– one who fans wanted to see make the team. However, he saw his preseason get cut short due to a groin strain. He’s been since sent down to the AHL to begin the season with the Phantoms, though I’d say there’s a chance he gets called back up when healthy, especially if Nolan Patrick’s absence continues further into the regular season than anticipated. Frost’s biggest asset is his vision, which some have compared to a young Claude Giroux. He racked up 37 goals and 72 assists a year ago for the OHL’s Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, as well as eight points (4G/4A) in five games with Canada’s U20 squad at World Juniors. He put that same skill on display this preseason and figures to do the same this year with the Phantoms and/or Flyers.

Despite 0 Points, Joel Farabee Backs Up the Hype
