Brian Cashman Fires Back at Cliff Lee, Sort Of

Kyle Scott - March 16, 2011

Dude, Jeter’s like 36

The Yankees are soooo butt-hurt over the Cliff Lee thing.

Last week, Lee was on the WIP Morning Show and told Angelo Cataldi that one of the reasons he didn’t choose the Yankees was because they were “getting older.”

Never mind the fact the Phillies are the oldest team in baseball.

It took Yankees GM Brian Cashman a few days to respond: [NY Post]

“Some of our core guys that we have relied on have gotten up there, but we have a group of young players that we’re excited about.

All we care about is being called champions. You can say anything else you want about us. When you call us old, that’s fine.

It doesn’t really matter. It was a marriage that was not meant to be. That’s life.”

Ah yes, invoking marriage when talking about baseball acquisitions- step 3 in the butt-hurt process.

Neither the comments from Lee nor Cashman are damning, but, if anything, the fire has been stoked for the next time Lee pitches in Yankee Stadium… whenever that is.

Listen to Lee’s comments after the jump.

Here’s a Two Year Old Impersonating Ryan Howard

Kyle Scott - January 28, 2011

Because it's a Friday afternoon in January. That's why.

Check out this kid imitating Ryan Howard's stance. The video was taken at an Iron Pigs game last year, but it was just posted to YouTube. He even fixes the batting gloves at the 45 second mark.

The big difference between the kid and Piece: The kid swung at the ball.

Cute children: Helping blogs mail it in since 2002.

Must Watch Video from Onion SportsDome: 8 Year Old Cancer Patient Granted Wish to Heckle David Wright

Kyle Scott - January 19, 2011

Just amazing.

I woke up to no less than three emails alerting us of Onion SportsDome's segment on Phillies fan Allison Pencey, an 8-year-old cancer patient whose lifelong dream to heckle David Wright was fulfilled by Onion's Wish Zone.

This is so wrong on so many levels, but it's also loaded with win. SportsDome absolutely nailed the tone and tenor of ESPN's My Wish segment.

It starts off with Allison sitting in her hospital bed cursing at Wright, before being told she would be taken to the Phillies game to heckle him in person.

I hate how he smiles, like he's playing to make friends. Just play, scumbag.

Must watch video after the jump.

This isn't going to sit well with some folks, but I'm more concerned about the young actor who will grow up thinking it's OK to impersonate cancer patients for the sake of comedy.

H/T to Michael, Matt, The Wiz Wit guys

8-Year-Old Boy Attacked at Browns Game, Philly Not Worst City on Earth

Kyle Scott - November 17, 2010

Just when the national media would like you to believe that Philly is the only city inhabited by bullies, shit like this happens.

An 8-year-old boy wearing a Jets jersey in Cleveland was attacked by Browns fans on Sunday. What exactly did they do to him?  Take it away, Mom:  [WEWS]

“Calling him a bad word, to my husband and to my son, throwing food at them,” Danielle said. She said the worst of it was in the Muni Lot, as they were walking to the car to leave.

“As he was walking, holding my son’s hand, a guy from behind tackled him. A drunken Browns fan tackled him and pulled him out of his dad’s hand. He was on the ground crying,” Danielle said.

She said the little boy’s ankle was scraped and bruised. The dad didn’t call police, opting to leave instead.

“He just wanted to get him out of there, out of that environment,” Danielle said.

Just horrible.  Many would argue that this is more horrible than puking, throwing snowballs at Santa, and running on the field in a Redman costume.  This stuff happens everywhere- we'll keep posting it.

What was the city's response?

The Muni Lot is operated by the City of Cleveland. Cleveland parks and recreation director Michael Cox told NewsChannel5 rowdy fan behavior, like this incident, is one of the reasons the lot no longer opens at 4 a.m. on game days. The city has been adding extra security to the lot because of some rowdy fans.

4 a.m.  Nice.
