Ricky Watters is Coming Back This Weekend, and He’s Not in Great Shape

For who? For what?

For Marcus Hayes, who didn’t write a ridiculous sonnet today.

Ricky Watters will be the Eagles’ honorary captain on Sunday. For what? I don’t know.

The oft-maligned former running back, whose time in Philly is fortunately or unfortunately summed up by those four simple words (well, three), will probably receive a mixture of boos and cheers from the lathered up masses.

But perhaps that shouldn’t be the case.

Hayes caught up with Watters, one of many former players who has filed for disability.

Watters can’t draw or paint, because of injury.

He has pins and plates in his bones.

He can’t sit for long stretches.

And he forgets things. So much so that his wife and kids have to remind him of names and conversations: []

He said he had dozens of concussions, from the time he starred at Bishop McDevitt in Harrisburg, then at Notre Dame, then in San Francisco, Philadelphia and, finally, Seattle, his last stop in a 10-year NFL career.

"Not that I knew what a concussion was then," Watters said.

How many times did he play without his full mental faculties?

"Hundreds of times."

Watters ignored the signs: headaches, fatigue, forgetfulness. His wife of 13 years, Catherina, was his fianceé when he was in Philadelphia. The Ricky she knew was disappearing: the Ricky with a photographic memory; the tireless Ricky who always followed through. She begged him to file for disability.

Good article.

Ricky Bottalico Wants to be Part of the Phillies Broadcast Crew, Says Ricky Bottalico’s Twitter

Kyle Scott - February 22, 2012

This gives all-new meaning to the Angry Bottalico.

Yesterday on Daily News Live, CSN announced that Gregg(ggggg) Murphy would join the Phillies as a field reporter. Sarge, who previously held that role, sort of, will stick to what he’s best at– sometimes when the pitch is a fastball, coming at a high velocity, the batter may want to swing more quickly, as well.

Anyway, Murphy joins the Phillies broadcast crew for all home and away games on CSN, Comcast Network, and MyPhl 17. But one person is not happy that he seemingly doesn’t fit into the Phillies' broadcast plans– Ricky Bottalico (@rickybottalico).

Here’s what Ricky Bo told a fan (or friend, since she's one of the few people that he tweets and follows, along with Paulina Gretzky…) last night on Twitter:

Those aren’t great things for a TV person to say publicly. Bottalico quickly realized that:

He has since removed the Tweets.

Bottalico, who most of us enjoy, is still scheduled for his normal role on Phillies Postgame Live, according to CSN press releases as recent as yesterday. But, it seems, he wants more.

What says you?

Video: Ricky Bottalico Discusses the “Bulging Dick” in Roy Oswalt’s Back

Kyle Scott - July 18, 2011

The funny thing about Roy Oswalt's back, Jules……..

Tonight on Daily News Live, Ricky Bo was asked if he thought Roy Oswalt will return this season. You know, if Little Roy just had the bulging disc, he may… but he might want to get that other thing looked at:

We were asked to remove the video. It still exists on the internet.

Ah yes, the infamous bulging dick, made famous by Steve Levy on SportsCenter. The best part of this video, though, is clearly when Barkann says "You're right, it's terrible."

Yes it is, Mike.

H/T to Ray for the video
