Giroux’s Sick Goal

Kyle Scott - September 25, 2010

For the third consecutive game, the Flyers went to a preseason shootout.  They beat Toronto last night, as Brian Boucher and Claude Giroux got them through he final frame.

Michael Leighton had to leave the game after the overtime period with a lower back strain.  Lavs said he was "cautiously optimistic" about the injury.  Impressively, Boucher came into the shootout cold and still won the thing.

This sick goal by Giroux's helped too… [via Philabright]

Flyers Unveil “New” Road Jerseys

Kyle Scott - September 18, 2010

As we told you about last month, the Flyers unveiled their "new" road jerseys yesterday.

Here's Mike Richards holding up the sweater at the Skate Zone in Voorhees.  Of course, the jerseys are basically the same as the ones worn during the Winter Classic back in January.  The only difference is that the patch has obviously been removed.

Still, big win here.  These things are awesome.

The NHL Shop still doesn't have the jerseys on sale, but when they do we'll be sure to bring them to you at a discount- so check back.

Not that we haven't seen them before, but maybe they could have, like, ironed it, yo.

Phillies Cap Successful Road Trip, We Boast

Kyle Scott - September 3, 2010

With fans panicking over four straight losses to the Astros, someone needed to be the voice of reason, last Friday.  Baseball is a sport where the best team doesn’t always win.  Last week, the Phillies faced a team full of players determined to prove them wrong.  They faced two pitchers in Myers and Happ who have a serious beef against them.  It was the end of a long home stand full of distractions.  Shit happens.

But the Phillies always seem to elevate their game against good teams (except Boston), and it was only a matter of time before Howard and Utley got their timing back- like Stella, and her groove. When a player returns from the DL, not only does he have to regain that timing, he also needs to regain his strength.  Utley returned in the absolute shortest amount of time, as soon as his ligament healed.  There are many upper body exercises you can’t do with an injured thumb (speaking from experience), so not only did Utley have to get his swing back, he also probably had to recoup some lost strength.  All of that doesn't happen overnight.  Not to mention that the Phillies had only played a handful of games with their opening day lineup.  It was only a matter of time before they put it all together again.

Fast forward a week, and the Phils that we know (and love) are back.  Howard, Werth, and Utley all homered in the 7th inning of last night’s game, helping the them pull out a wild Coors Field comeback to cap a 6-1 road trip.  And really, did you expect anything less?  We didn't.

Dated August 27th.

Flyers to Unveil Last January’s Throwback Jersey, Wear it on the Road

Kyle Scott - August 30, 2010

The Flyers will unveil their new road jerseys on Sept. 17th, but, uh, you’ve seen them before.  They will wear the same white throwback sweaters they wore at the Winter Classic in January.  Win.

Not sure why this change didn’t happen last winter.  They did it with the orange throwbacks, it was only a matter of time for the white (I still have trouble calling white the road jerseys).  The jersey will obviously be lacking the Winter Classic logo, but it appears that everything else will remain the same.

The white jerseys they had been wearing were part of the new Reebok Edge design.  The cut will remain modern on the throwbacks, but the style closely resembles the old-style jerseys.  Unlike the Sixers, who are a complete FAIL with their updated throwbacks– which look way too much like Clippers jerseys, even with the 2010 update.

Jeff Carter?  He doesn’t need a shirt.

Yo, Captain Highpants.

Kyle Scott - June 25, 2010

Tonight, the Phillies will be wearing their road grays, bat first, listen to Oh Canada, and reportedly see Canadian Mountees around the stadium.

Don't forget, it's steal a Canadian journalist's license plate night!  Kidding…

With Doc Halladay toeing the rubber, we figured we would bring this awesome video made by a Blue Jay fans just one more time.
