Ex-Penn Basketball Star Killed by His Wife for Watching Porno

Kyle Scott - February 12, 2013

According to the records, Garcia-Pellon went in the kitchen in the couple's home on the 800 block of Parkridge Drive, sometime around midnight. There, she retrieved a glass of water and two knives.

She returned to the bedroom and slipped the knives under her side of the bed. She took one of the knives out as her husband was asleep.

She stabbed him in the neck, the records allege.

Garcia-Pellon then changed her clothes and left the house. She went to the home of a friend and told her White had allegedly been viewing pornography on a computer and she killed him, the records state.

The friend called 911.

"I caught him looking at pornography, young girls, I love kids," Garcia-Pellon told investigators. "I had to do it."

White was starting center in 1979 when Penn made it to the Final Four of the NCAA basketball championship.

White played for the varsity team from 1976 to 1979. He holds the school record for field goal percentage among players with a minimum of 250 made field goals.

Wait. She killed her husband for watching porn? [rolls over, goes willingly] Two things:

1) Um, can you blame him?

Screen Shot 2013-02-12 at 11.52.19 AM

2) How young were the girls? Like, was it one of those barely legal, they are totally 18 just trust us this is their first time despite that gaping vacancy pornos, where the girls are ostensibly of age and there are all sorts of disclaimers and shit and was Jordan Capri in it because that chick is totally 30 and has been doing this for years? Or was this real, honest-to-goodness kiddie porn? Because it makes a difference.

Still, knifing your husband is a bit much. Perhaps call 911. Or get a divorce. Or out him to a certain local sports blog that will blog about things barely related to current local sports. I think there’s a happy medium there. Nope– just killed him. There’s always weird shit going on with UPenn folks. Too smart for their own good. Should have gone to Villanova… where the basketball arena was named after a murderer. Never mind.

Khalif Wyatt Took Evan Turner to “White Girl Wednesday” Last Night… and That Couldn’t Have Ended Well

Evan Turner, who we’re assuming is still dating Chels (pictorial here), made another appearance at White Girl Wednesdays at the Draught Horse, on Temple’s campus, last night. He was brought there by Khalif Wyatt, which is never a safe thing:

CTFUUU! The last time Wyatt turned up something on diamond dollars, he was arrested for buying hookers. Presumably, that didn't happen last night. Or maybe it did. Who am I to judge?

Some more sightings:

Meep meep.

On Saturday, Turner took in the football game at his alma mater, Ohio State:

By all accounts, ET and Chels are madly in love, so we’re not implying anything. But, I mean, who doesn’t love themselves some white girls?

Along with Rays pitcher David Price and Mr. Veep, Jimmy Rollins was at the White House this morning to help launch a PSA against dating violence.

Fast forward to the 10:51 mark of the second video (after the jump) to listen to Jimmy’s introduction of Joe Biden, who started off his speech by talking about how much his wife loves the Phillies and her Jimmy Rollins bobblehead… which sleeps on the Veep’s nightstand.

Here's the PSA:

Bruins Goalie Tim Thomas Skips Out on White House Visit

Kyle Scott - January 23, 2012

Last year, then-Flyers Kris Versteeg and Nick Boynton decided to skip the Blackhawks’ visit to the White House because they wanted to practice with the Flyers. Noble.

Today, Bruins goalie Tim Thomas skipped out on the Bruins’ visit to the White House because of political differences. Jackasstic!

The details from Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli via Puck Daddy:

Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli confirmed that Thomas had told him months ago he would not attend the White House event due to his political and ideological differences with the Obama administration. Chiarelli said he had tried to convince Thomas to attend the event "over the last couple months" to no avail.

"He chose not to come. The reasons behind it I think he'll make the media aware through his Facebook," said Chiarelli.

The GM said that he could have mandated Thomas attend the event, but chose not to. "I can require someone to attend a team event. If they don't, I can suspend him. But I'm not going to suspend Tim. Whatever his position is isn't representative of the Boston Bruins or my own. But I'm not going to suspend him."

It’s Thomas' right to do what he chooses, it seems our country was founded on that principle, but what’s the point? Now, instead of the attention being on his (I write this begrudgingly) deserving teammates and Zdeno Chara, everyone will talk about the best player’s absence from the White House.

Whether you agree with Barack Obama and his administration's political views or not should have little, if anything, to do with attending. It’s a photo-op for the President, yes, but it’s also a way for the team (and fans) to celebrate their accomplishment by getting a little recognition from the most powerful man in the world.

Evan Turner and Sixers Lose Tough One to Nuggets, Hit Up White Girl Wednesdays at Draught Horse

Kyle Scott - January 19, 2012

Evan Turner is stepping his play up a notch. Last night Beaker put up 20 and 11 in a hard fought – really, it was – loss to that bastard Andre Miller and the Denver Nuggets. You can see ET’s maturity in plays like the one he made with 1:50 remaining in the fourth quarter: he got the ball on the baseline, and instead of hastily putting up a jumper (which he did, and missed, just a few minutes earlier), he drove the baseline and went in for the easy two.  You can see what I’m talking about at the :50 mark of this video.

After the game, Turner, Lou Williams, Jrue Holiday and Lavoy Allen hit up White Girls Wednesdays at the Draught Horse on Temple's campus, according to the Twitters:

Turner, of course, is a veteran of WGW. Get some, ET. Not you, though, Jrue. You sit in the corner for that ill-advised pass you made to end the game.

Pictures are welcome…

Writer of White Vick Story Calls Picture “Horrific” and “Misguided”

Kyle Scott - August 29, 2011

image from

So the guy who wrote about white Mike Vick (an article that made a lot of good points which were lost thanks to ESPN's decision to run a Photoshop of a white Vick) opined on the image on

This is what I set out to discuss in my Vick article. I also wanted to discuss some of my football observations, but ESPN was less interested in that, perhaps rightly so. As is typical in the magazine business, a writer hands in his copy and then it goes through an editing process. We knew it was a complex piece and worked on it very carefully, wanting to get it right, not wanting to offend. But the writer does not have a say in the title or the artwork that goes with a piece. I've been writing for magazines and newspapers for almost 20 years and I can't recall ever being asked about or even knowing about the title and the art surrounding my stories. That is not considered the magazine writer's purview. So I had no knowledge of or say in the title of the story and the horrific, misguided picture of Vick in whiteface, which dismayed and disgusted me when I saw it.

And that's what happens when the left hand doesn't talk to the right hand. Ironically, this has happened to Toure before:

In the book world you title your books, but you have no say in the book cover. In my first book, a collection of short stories called "The Portable Promised Land," I wrote a short story about a basketball player with Air Jordans that let him fly short distances. He was named Falcon Malone.

When I got my finished book cover there was a painted image of a man with what looked like a chicken on his shoulder. I asked my editor why there was a chicken on his shoulder. He said that was supposed to be a falcon. I said, "But there are no flying birds of any sort in any of these stories. I wrote about a man nicknamed Falcon." He shrugged.

…which brings up an interesting question: What if Michael Vick were a Falcon?

Screen Shot 2011-08-29 at 10.14.15 AM

Oh. Well that's not so interesting.

ESPN Made Michael Vick White

Kyle Scott - August 25, 2011

Is it just me or is that not essentially Tim Tebow with a goatee?

Oh boy.

It's not quite as bad as you think. They published a very ballsy article in the latest issue of ESPN The Magazine, which has Vick on the cover. It deals with race (obviously) and wonders how Vick would be viewed, or how his circumstances would be different, if he were white.

You can read the article here. Somewhere, Michael Jackson is pissed.

UPDATE: ESPN has removed the photo. It lives on here.

UPDATE 2: They put the picture back.
