Mayor Nutter Has Declared a Snow Emergency, But the Flyers Game is Still On (UPDATE: Canceled)

For some reason, the Flyers game against the Carolina Hurricanes scheduled for this evening – during the middle of BOMBOGENESIS, mind you – has yet to be postponed. The Flyers would reportedly like to cancel it (NO BEER REVENUE, OHMAHGOD!), but the Carolina Hurricanes, who are already here and who have had one game postponed this season, want to play. It may now be a league decision. The proposed reschedule date is March 10.

Meanwhile, you have Hurricanes PR guy Mike Sundeneneneheieieieheim, who doesn’t really care about your safety or concession revenue. He just doesn’t want to make another trip to Philadelphia:

Voila_Capture1028Missing the whole snow thing, Mike. Missing the whole snow thing.

UPDATE: It’s canceled. From the release:

Tonight’s game between the Philadelphia Flyers and Carolina Hurricanes at Wells Fargo Center, NHL Game No. 749, has been postponed due to the snow emergency declared in the city of Philadelphia.

A makeup date will be announced as soon as it can be confirmed.

Good decision.

  1. As I’ve posted out on Twitter, it’s a public nuisance, which from what I remember, it could very well cause at the minimum fines. Technically, New Jersey is under a state of emergency, and this means that technically, the game will probably be cancelled.
I have a relative that works for PennDOT. He plows major highways, and he’s told all of his family and friends to stay off the roads, and that as fast as he puts salt, cinder down and plows, the road doesn’t look like it’s been cleared. He also said that Schuylkill is so dangerous that he’s afraid that lighter vehicles will skid out and crash. (No he doesn’t send out messages while he’s plowing. He does so when he’s getting a coffee or using the men’s room.) He did say that this is weather that would come close to a blizzard, but would not say that it’s blizzard.
If the offices of the NHL had any sense, and valued the fans, they would trump the decision of the Canes to want to push on and postpone the game.

The game is in Philly! Carolina should have NO SAY as to whether the game is played!

The fucking game better not be canceled I have literally nothing else to do.

  3. I have tickets to tonights game and would rather not have to trudge through the snow later this evening. Please NHL, Betmann or whomever cancel tonights game. It is awfully snowy outside and it’s only going to get worse. Oh yeah before I forget a big FUCK YOU to the carolina hurricanes for not caring about the safty of Philadelphians.

  4. Kyle, I don’t get the last name reference. Sundheim…is it hard for you to say that name?

  5. Game has been postponed.

  6. Just heard on KYW that the game has been postponed. Let’s see if Ed Rendell complains about Philadelphians being wusses.

    • Go take some SEC weed and drive around looking for your local Boston Market. If you can find it, pull into the nearest department store parking lot and rub one out. Trust me, it’s AMAZING.

Mayor Urkel needs to settle down and focus on what’s really important, like CRIME and LOUSY SCHOOLS and CORRUPTION IN CITY HALL. Why is he concerning himself with the Flyers?

  13. Wow life is frozen on the East coast.
