The Flyers Had a 4.37% Chance of Making the Playoffs After Losing 3-0 to the Devils on November 7

Today, they have a 98.26% chance.

This chart comes via SportsClubStats.com, which shows us that the manufactured panic surrounding the Flyers’ recent four-game(-ish) skid was mostly just that– manufactured. Their chances of making the playoffs have been about over 90% since beating the Blackhawks a few weeks ago.

What’s amazing is that their playoff chances went from under 10% to over 90% in about only 100 days. Their fortunes began to reverse course after that 3-0 Devils loss, when they beat the Edmonton Oilers, 4-2, on November 9… which just happened to be the game Claude Giroux scored his first goal of the year and my first game of the year:
