Peter Laviolette is the New Coach of the Nashville Predators

From the Preds:

Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has hired 2006 Stanley Cup-winning coach Peter Laviolette as the second head coach in team history and signed him to a multi-year contract. Also joining the coaching staff is Kevin McCarthy, who will serve as an assistant alongside Lane Lambert and Phil Housley.

I miss Lavs. Respect the job Berube has done. But miss Lavs.

  1. Cup = Theirs

  2. Perfect fit. They have the talent on defense to support his offensive system. They have a high draft pick, maybe pick the most NHL-ready offensive player and sign one or two more.

I have a feeling Nashville is in the WCF, if not the SCF, within 2 years.

  3. I don’t mind Chief, but, man, I’d love to see Barry Trotz behind the Flyers’ bench next seasno.

    • I agree. Last season I thought the Flyers would be better off trying to get Lindy Ruff, who usually did more with less. Barry Trotz is even better and a real head coach who knows how to get the most from his team.

      • Right on, Chief did a nice job but Trotz and a on par performance by Mason next year could make things interesting.

I’ve always been a Trotz fan going back to his days coaching the Portland Pirates of the AHL. I agree with your post completely. I’m a fan of Berube and really think he has done a fine job however I’m not completely sold on him being a long term solution for the Flyers.

    Will he take Vinny too?

  5. Do you know the difference between jam and jelly?

  6. So much for us getting Weber. They will be dominant in a year or two. They have the defense and goaltending to make up for the defensive shortcomings of his system. They will become like the Kings, get just enough scoring while still suffocating the opposing team and not giving up any goals. In typical Philly curse fashion, Lavy will go on to win a Cup within a couple of years after he leaves us.

  7. What’s the problem now???

  8. Looks like Lavy gets the last laugh. Not only is he out from under Snider’s thumb, he gets to coach Weber anyway…

As long as Holmgren is the GM, it doesn’t matter who the coach or players are.

  10. Catch a damned pass

I’m already a fan of the Preds, this just makes it that much sweeter.

  11. I just wish he would have done one more thing while here (besides winning the Cup, obviously) – actually gone over the glass and beaten the shit out of Bylsma.
