The Flyers are Holding a Press Conference at 11:30 to Announce Ron Hextall as Their New GM

Screen Shot 2013-07-05 at 8.23.48 AMThe Flyers just announced that they will be holding a press conference at 11:30 a.m. to announce front office “promotions.” Prediction? Ron Hextall is the new GM, Paul Holmgren gets bumped up to president or chief advisor of some sort.

UPDATE: And indeed Frank Seravalli is reporting just that.

I’m not sure what the title President actually means for the Flyers, but in most organizations it actually serves an important business function (read: the most important). It’s Peter Luukko’s previous role. It’s not just about the game, it’s about all the stuff around it. The stuff that makes money. Holmgren… doesn’t seem smart. He’s certainly not a businessman. Maybe it’s just a title, since Comcast is sort of running the show now anyway, but Holmgren shouldn’t be anywhere near the boardroom of any organization. But I guess as long as he stays away from expensing trips to the strip club, he’ll be fine…

  1. Who am I?

  2. “Prediction” ?? Or you saw all the beat writers say it and want your own credit. Then you go around and bash them for doing there job. Fuck you.

    • That escalated quickly.

    • You were so close

No no, really Kyle predicted those mgmt moves completely on his own… know, the same Kyle that doesn’t know dick about hockey except how to print scraggly orange hair on t-shirts.

He figured it all out, then those lame writers gradually caught on to his awesome prescience.

      What a fucking ass-douche loser.

      • You seem to care way too much about a sports blog that usually focuses on tits and tweets.

          May 7, 2014 at 10:15 am

Yo buddy don’t say anything about the tits around here, comments will get disabled.

And visitors outing Kyle as a fraud are “caring too much”? Um, are you incognito-Kyle?

          • Not Kyle. But visitors pointing out Kyle that just rehashes tweets on a wordpress site are as insightful as people at the Grand Canyon saying “Wow it’s deep!”. We know already, shithead. Nobody comes here for breaking news.

Pay more attention. The point isn’t the tweeted information, it’s that Kyle is taking credit for developing thoughts on his own that he clearly didn’t. Twit-orial plagiarism? Whatever the fuck it’s called, it’s really weak. And transparent.

  3. And Kyle Scott is added to the staff as a special strategy consultant.

  4. First “Fire Hextall” message in 5…4…3…2…

  5. Second Opinion

O.K. with Hextall, but why is Holmgren being promoted? Trust me, they will never win another Cup with Snider et al in charge. Remember 25 years ago when he put his son in charge and they missed the playoffs five years straight.

Probably because Eddy can’t bring himself to fire someone who used to play for the team. So that’s good for Hexy at least. This is just a job title to make it look like Homer did a good job when we all know he didn’t and it finally got him “fired.” All he did was fail his way to the top.

  6. flyer way

  7. At least Hextall spent some time in the Kings front office so he hasn’t been completely “culturized” and he has seen how other organizations operate.

  8. Who gets traded first ? or let go ?

Bryz & Brierre went further….embarrasing to watch.

  9. Last year (Luukko) you were real sure about the role of president, now you’re not? This is obviously just a move to let Homer stay till his contract is up. Save face a bit. His contracts were fucking horrible and ultimately that’s what did him in.

Eddie “sexual predator” Snider needs to amnesty Hartnell

  11. Call Me When Ed Croaks

    May 7, 2014 at 9:42 am

Zero fucks given. We’re never winning anything until Ed and his culture fucking dies. A 6th GM since ’83 isn’t going to fix it.

As fans, lets stop referring to them as “Homer” and “Hexy”.

  13. I think for you to infer Holmgren is not smart just because he made some hockey moves you didn’t like is really nearsighted. Like you are a rocket scientist or something …

I hope they put some young girls in the front office.

Whatever happened to the kacie comments?

  16. Your prediction??? Ha! Dude you saw the tweets from reporters and then just said what they reported. Come on. Why do you treat the few loyal readers of your blog like fools.

  17. This reminds me of the time I promoted Eddie Sherman to Director of Corporate Development because I was afraid to fire him.

  18. Or maybe Snider promoted Homer to president because as much as he knows he had to make a move to a new GM, he also realizes he absolutely f*cked Homer with the mandates to trade Richards/Carter and add a high priced big name goalie a couple years back. He put Homer in a no win situation that summer.

  19. “No, we don’t need a fresh perspective”

Why does Holmgren always have the look on his face that he just walked into one of Hartnell’s hot wet farts.

  21. Move means very little…Ed Snider will still make his typical moves as always.
