The Sixers Are Not Getting Anthony Bennett, but Thaddeus Young Is Still Going to Minnesota

Here’s the trade. From the AP:

A person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press that the Timberwolves will receive Philadelphia 76ers power forward Thaddeus Young as part of the deal that will send Love to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The person requested anonymity because an official announcement has not been made.

The Wolves agreed weeks ago to send Love to Cleveland, where he will team up with LeBron James and Kyrie Irving to make the Cavaliers an instant favorite in the Eastern Conference. The Cavs agreed to send No. 1 overall draft pick Andrew Wiggins, former No. 1 pick Anthony Bennett and a 2015 No. 1 draft choice they obtained from Miami to Minnesota to land Love, but Wolves President Flip Saunders and GM Milt Newton immediately went to work to try to get the 76ers involved in the deal as well.

The rebuilding Sixers will get guard Alexey Shved and forward Luc Mbah a Moute from the Timberwolves and Miami’s No. 1 pick next year from the Cavaliers in the deal, which will not be officially announced until Saturday when Wiggins becomes eligible to be traded.

Great, expiring contracts. Woo!

Adrian Wojnarowski shit all over Bob Cooney’s earlier report that Bennett was coming to the Sixers as part of the Andrew Wiggins-to-the-Wolves trade:

Ouch.

So, what can Thad expect in Minnesota? Well…

The Timberwolves were expected to introduce Young, Wiggins and Bennett on Tuesday at the Minnesota State Fair.

A STATE FAIR! Actually… that might be better than the Constitution Center.

Don’t like this return at all and this now makes Arnett Moultrie the longest tenured Sixer. This team is going to be so awful that the Eagles will more games this season.

  2. Get out of The 95 corridor, you sound like a sheltered jerk. the Minnesota State fair is the second largest fair in the country after Texas and several million people will attend.

    • You know you live in the middle of no-where when your big thing is a state fair.

I don’t think anyone in philly could care any less about the 2nd largest state fair in MINN

      • I dont live in Minnesota, i just happen to travel further than the stadiums, cousins who moved to the western burbs, and sea isle during the summer.

Fair takes place in the twin cities anyway. Far from the middle of nowhere. Read a book or something. God…

  3. This Hinkie walks on water around here but what the hell has he done to give him all of this credibility? There’s a lot of uncertainty about the draft with Embiid appearing to be more interested in twitter stalking chicks and being a comedian than becoming a top player in this league. And the Saric pick is sketchy as there’s no guarantee he’ll ever come over here. And now he gets rid of Thad for garbage. His plan may work, but there’s lots of questions. Enough questions that he doesn’t deserve to be treated like some kind of genius around here.

    • Its not as if he walks on water, but rather that he does indeed have a friggin plan to rebuild and make a contender. Sure it will take about 4-5 years in total and still may not pan out (and he will be crucified if it doesn’t). He got a lot of love too because we all thought the Sixers would get Wiggins so that led to a lot of the mythical genius that Hinkie is lol.

Meanwhile, Monty and Rube have no plan or any idea in all hell to rebuild this team. Should have traded Lee (Yes, hindsight) last year and Hamels this year or the upcoming offseason.

Its safe to trust Chip and Howie’s approach to the Eagles.

Trust Hexty for now. He has a huge hole to dig out of because Holmgren was the most reactionary GM I honestly can remember. I still cant believe he gave Macdonald that contract after like 19 games played.

    • MOLTEN HOT TAKE HERE GUYS.

WE DON’T WANT NO FUNNY BOYS.

  4. What do people expect for Thad? In case anyone didn’t remember, LeBron left Miami, so their 1st round pick isn’t going to be at the end like past several years. They retained Wade, who is a shell of his former self and will probably miss a large part of season due to injuries/being old and also Bosh. They’ll probably make the playoffs in the pathetic East, but depending on injuries, etc, I wouldn’t say that is a lock. This could easily be a late lottery/mid-teens pick, which isn’t bad for Thad…they weren’t going to pay him after this season anyway and it’s not like you are going to get a high lottery pick for him (I’m sure they tried this past draft).

What is this team called the sixers?

  6. to all 6 6ers fans

I’m sure a 6 of the 6ers fans are really disappointed.

  7. Good. I’d rather have the 1st round pick.

  8. CLAP YA HANDS EVERYBODY 4 TANKADELPHIA 76ERS

    Well at least we’ll be getting a 1st rd pick,somewhere between 15 – 20.

And Joel Embiid will be under the tutelage of the player who discovered him in Cameroon,so I guess it’s a win-win situation.
