From the Star-Tribune:

Multiple sources tell the Star Tribune that all NHL teams will be permitted to have only home and road jerseys next season as Adidas takes over for Reebok as the official outfitter of NHL uniforms.

There will be no third jerseys, in order to make the initial implementation of new sweaters easier.

Yes, because what hockey needs is less publicity and revenue that is generated by alternate jerseys. I mean, sure, maybe Adidas learned a lesson from Nike, which famously(?) had trouble recreating the Eagles’ Midnight Green after taking over NFL jerseys from Reebok, but how many hockey teams have made up colors like the Eagles? Oh, what’s that, gold is apparently a lot harder to produce than originally thought? Well then, maybe this is a wise move by Adidas.*

*It’s not. And I’m fully of the belief that pro sports teams should wear new jerseys every week or month. Why not mix it up? It keeps fan interest, sells more apparel, and allows you to keep things fresh without sacrificing the brand. If anything, Oregon football’s is stronger because they constantly change their uniforms. Hockey, more than any sport, can afford to experiment here. Glad to see Adidas, as expected, is ready to bore the shit out of us.
