Roy Halladay

On a windy, rainy night in South Philadelphia, RHP Roy Halladay notched his 3rd win of the season after tossing 8 solid innings in the Phillies 8-6 victory over the Florida Marlins.

Halladay, who was victorious last Sunday over the Houston Astros, pitched 8 innings of 2-run ball. He allowed a homerun to 2B Dan Uggla in the 4th, and an RBI double to SS Hanley Ramirez in the 8th. Those were Halladay's only two blemishes in an outing in which Halladay had to pitch in pouring rain. Overall, he allowed 8 hits, and struck out 4. In the 100 pitches he threw, 70 were strikes. It was quite the outing, and frankly, it was a performance that I wouldn't expect giving the playing conditions. He is a true gamer, and it was well worth standing in the freezing rain to watch Doc toss a gem. As for the bullpen, it wasn't as good. In the 9th, RHP David Herndon allowed 4 runs on 5 hits. RHP Ryan Madson would then have to relieve Herndon, but got out of a late inning jam, securing the Phils 8-6 victory.

2B Chase Utley continued his dominance at the plate, going 2-3 with a solo homerun in in the 7th. 3B Placido Polanco also had a homerun, going 1-5 on the day. Replacing SS Jimmy Rollins, Juan Castro was impressive at the plate. He went 2-3, with 3 RBIs. 1B Ryan Howard, RF Jayson Werth, and C Carlos Ruiz would add RBIs of their own.

Tomorrow night, the Phillies send LHP Jamie Moyer to the mound. He was shaky in his 1st start of the season, but was able to pick up the victory. Opposing him will be RHP Ricky Nolasco. First pitch is at 7:05, and the game can be seen on CSN.
