Phillies center fielder Shane Victorino has been placed on the 15-day DL with an abdominal strain on his left side.  Victorino said last night that he felt pain as he dove back in to first base, and that it accelerated as he went to catch a fly ball in the top of the 7th.

With Victorino on the shelf, the Phils have called up top-prospect Domonic Brown from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.  The 22 year old Brown started the season with Double-A Reading and hit .318  with 15 homers and 47 RBI in 65 games.  On June 25, Brown was promoted to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.  In 28 games with the Iron Pigs, Brown was hitting .346 with 21 RBI and was hitting over .300 against lefties.  Brown will wear the #9 and will be available for tonight's game against the Diamondbacks.

  1. It’s about stinkin time. I’m sick and tired of the Phillies waiting too long to bring up their prospects. If a guy’s ready for “The Show” at 21 or 22, there is no reason to keep him in the minors until 25 or 26.

  2. Let the “werth/shane/raul needs to go” debacle begin. Hope this shuts people up for awhile. He’s a prospect and not proven at the Major League level. Honestly with all of the major injuries this team has had I am surprised they are still contenders. The only person that needs to go from this team is Ruben. I can’t stand his cockiness and arrogance. Bring Gillick back!!

  3. Oh Crap!
While I’ll be keen on seeing how Brown performs, I was hoping with the streak of late, Shane would be inspired to start batting better numbers and get his head back together with his base-running.
