Perhaps GM's should be more wise when trading away Cliff Lee.

Last month we told you about Tyson Gillies (one of the prospects the Phillies received in return for Lee) and the time he left coke in a cop car.

Well, it seems now that the Mariners have a similar problem.  When they traded Lee to the Texas Rangers in July, they received Josh Lueke- whose name alone reeks of Duke Lacrosse player.  As it turns out, you can judge a book by its cover.  Because what the Rangers didn't know, was that Lueke raped a passed out 22 year old on bathroom floor in 2008.  Nice.  [Seattle Times]

Police and court documents show Lueke lied multiple times to police investigating the suspected May 2008 sexual assault of an unconscious 22-year-old woman in a Bakersfield, Calif., apartment shared by the pitcher and his Class A teammates.

The case is potentially embarrassing for the Mariners, who run an annual Refuse to Abuse campaign and have long supported groups opposing violence toward women.

The Mariners claim they knew nothing about it before the trade, but their former pitching coach, Rick Adair, says he told management about Lueke before the deal was done.  And the Rangers claim they made a standing offer to take Lueke back the night of the trade.

Moral of the story: don't trade Cliff Lee.
