Anthony SanFilippo Wants You to Lay Off Mike Richards’ Dick

We've made a lot of Mike Richards' dickish ways with reporters. It's kind of funny, actually.

Anthony SanFilippo, who has posted some of Richards' "outbursts," says it's time to move on: [Delco Times]

Some have called him a jerk, others a punk. But the most common refrain, the most common indictment is this: “He’s not a captain.”

It’s time to blow the whistle on that one.

A captain of a sports team is supposed to be a lot of things — someone who is the emotional leader of the group; someone to act as a liaison between the rest of the players and the coaches; someone to hold his teammates accountable for their play.

Nowhere in the description of a captain does it state that said person should be affable with the media.

He's right on. By all accounts, Richards is generally a dick to reporters. But that has nothing to do with his play on the ice or leadership abilities. Just look at his playoff performance last year. Tells you all you need to know.

So, humans, do you care that Mike Richards is a dick? I think I know the answer on this one.

  1. Being accountable for your (and your teams) performance night in and night out is what being a good leader and captain is about.
All I hear from Richards whenever the team sputters is that, oh well, its just one game and geeze you media and fans keep asking the same old questions.
Sorry Mike, thats how it works when you are the captain. Accept blame when things aren’t going so well and step up your game.
You can still be a dick to the media if you want, look at how Pronger handles them, but don’t whine about repetitive questions and demanding fans.
Pronger and Briere get it having captained other teams. Richards, not so much.

  2. ^ Douche. Just cuz of your name.
I don’t care what Richards does off the ice. I wouldn’t want all those cameras in my face either.

  3. I don’t really watch interviews with the players as it is, so no, it doesn’t bother me. Play the game well and I don’t give a rip what you say in an interview.

  4. While I could care less what athletes say, or don’t say to the media, it wouldn’t hurt guys like Richards to show some common civility and decency to the reporters who are only doing their job. Bottom line: treat others the way YOU would want to be treated.

  5. i’m pretty sure less than 1% of Flyers fans give a shit that Mike Richards is a jerk to the media. In a Mike Richards vs. Media spat, i’m siding with the Captain. He could kill media types in his spare time, for all i care. Stop inserting yourselves into my sports news.
