The always reliable Czech press is reporting that Jakub Voracek has signed a four-year deal with the Flyers. Translated:

Priority in long negotiations getting more famous names from the free-market players. But now, the future James Voráček with Philadelphia again tightly linked. According to iSport.cz at night on Thursday caught up negotiations on a new agreement under which the Czech world champion for the next four years earning a total of $ 17 million.

Right. What they said.

Caution: Overseas press, especially through translation, is not always reliable. Though it’s worth mentioning that Jaromir Jagr wrote a blog for the same website. The Flyers have not confirmed the deal yet.

Voracek was a restricted free agent and there was some doubt as to whether he would be a Flyer long-term. He’s only 22 and showed some promise last year, scoring 18 goals in 78 games, but was still mentioned in many trade rumors.

As you know, Voracek and Sean Couturier (draft pick) were the return the Flyers received from the Blue Jackets for Stanley Cup Champion Jeff Carter.

UPDATE: Tim Panaccio confirms it.

So they gave him JvR’s money.
$4 million/season??? That’s a lot of money for a guy who hasn’t even scored 20 goals in a season yet.

  • boom July 26, 2012 at 10:01 am

Giroux and Voracek are gonna be the new Mario and Jagr.
all contracts were inflated this offseason, he’s probably worth more like 3.75 but all the NHL contracts are spiraling out of control.

  • Tom Corbett July 26, 2012 at 10:12 am

I am a little uneasy about putting Voracek on the first line with Giroux. The only size on that top line would be Hartnell, who, God love him, cant play in the corners without falling.
They may not need size, but I just see a ton of battles being lost by that top line.

  • Trent Klatt July 26, 2012 at 10:13 am

this is perfect. He played extremely well in the playoffs last year and showed maturity throughout the course of the season. Cannot wait to see him playing with G and Hartsy for an entire season

  • Tim Panaccio Is a Bitch July 26, 2012 at 10:20 am

Good move, had to be done. Voracek showed a lot of creativity in the offensive end last year and the Flyers are going to need that with JVR and Jagr gone.
Still worried about goals with this team. I don’t expect Hartnell to duplicate his AS numbers. Briere should pick up some of the slack this year but unless either Schenn or Cooter step up big time offensively, they are going to be hurting for goals.

  • FACE July 26, 2012 at 10:22 am

    Great move. Jake the snake!

  • George July 26, 2012 at 10:34 am

“As you know, Voracek and Sean Couturier (draft pick) were the return the Flyers received from the Blue Jackets who then in turned traded Jeff Carter to the Kings who went on to win the Stanley Cup”
I edited that part for you, since you left it out.

  • timpala11 July 26, 2012 at 10:34 am

I feel like he could be the next JvR…he showed a lot of promise for a small stretch at the end of the year. I’d have traded him in a Weber deal.

  • uncle meat July 26, 2012 at 10:38 am

    Giroux’s ugly twin gettin’ paid!

  • Open your eyes July 26, 2012 at 10:40 am

The Flyers scored 260 goals in the regular season last year. Subtract Jagr’s 19 and JVR’s 11 and you get 230, which still makes the Flyers a top 10 scoring team. Out of the top 10 scoring teams, 0 made it past the second round. Meanwhile, the 29th ranked scoring team won the cup. I can’t believe anyone is talking offense when anyone who watched them last year should know this team’s most worrisome category is defense.

  • lumpy7 July 26, 2012 at 10:41 am

That statement sounds a lot like Charlie Manuel’s press conferences.

  • Tits McCarthy July 26, 2012 at 10:42 am

@Tom Corbett – shut the hell up and get your facts straight. Voracek is bigger than Hartnell and has good speed for his size and always busts his ass no matter what. Good move. Voracek is a boss but just never gets enough opportunities. He had 18 opportunities last year…just need to start giving him the puck.

  • Candy from the Oak July 26, 2012 at 10:45 am

Great signing. Locking up the future. Now get G to stop eating and doing lines

  • boom July 26, 2012 at 10:52 am

Jake’s gonna make everyone forget about Jagr next season, first goal of the video…

get ready to see a lot more of that.
Everyone watching Jake razzle dazzle, no look pass, boom, Giroux hits twine, and repeat.

  • Steve July 26, 2012 at 10:54 am

    @Open your eyes
No shit. Do the names Suter and Weber ring a bell? Their priority was defense, then Voracek. Obviously the latter got done because the first priority couldn’t get done.

  • Chance- Vice President of the GnA Falcons July 26, 2012 at 11:38 am

i just hope Jakub Voracek kicks his drug addiction.

  • Ronnie Noel July 26, 2012 at 12:09 pm

i wonder if Jake ever gets any ladies with that mug

  • Open your eyes July 26, 2012 at 12:52 pm

I’ll have to look those names up. Using my context clues, I assume they play defense but I’ll double check.
My point was geared toward those who suggested the offense would struggle to score this year.

  • Branko Radivojevič July 26, 2012 at 1:23 pm

    Hartnell is bigger than Voracek.
    Voracek plays defense.
Just wanted to clear those two things up. Nice top 6 forward who started to come into his own late last season. He does not always show up on the stat sheets, but he makes things happen.

  • teamozzy July 26, 2012 at 1:35 pm

@VP Chance- Do you get hard talking about athletes (who you have never met) and drug habits? Is that why you do it every day? You fucking tool.

  • Tits McCarthy July 26, 2012 at 2:07 pm

Branko – they are comparable in size and one is bigger than the other depending on where you get it but most put him heavier and looks bigger on the ice. And he’s a winger d-bag not a defenceman. Take a shower!

  • Homer's Gun July 26, 2012 at 2:21 pm

dude do you have to put “Stanley Cup Champion” before Jeff Carter’s name at the end there? Moooove onnnnnnnnn!

  • JayRockers! July 26, 2012 at 7:27 pm

Alex Semin signed one year for $7M in Carolina.
Would have been great to have here instead. Take the place of Jagr, Voracek or Leino as one-year wonders.

  • Chance- Vice President of the GnA Falcons July 26, 2012 at 10:51 pm

@teamozzy- it is what it is.

  • TCR July 27, 2012 at 6:30 am

You guys need a goalie first. Oh and some defense. Did yous see what Pitt and Jersey did to you?
Oh yeah, don’t plan on beating the Rangers this year either. In case you didn’t hear the got Nash for nothing.

  • JayRockers! July 27, 2012 at 7:54 am

    @Mark Whited
Can’t trade for Weber, RFA’s who sign with original team have 1yr no trade clause built in.
