Video: The Hunter Hath Arrived… in San Francisco

Screen Shot 2012-08-01 at 11.06.30 AM
Let me eat?

Ugh. If you want to injure your soul a bit more, here’s video of Hunter Pence arriving in San Francisco last night. The shot is quite similar to what we saw on CSN locally last summer, when Pence arrived in an SUV in the bowels of CBP. The scene is the same. The location, much different.

Pence was immediately greeted by a blonde, however. So, yeah, he’s going to do just fine in San Fran.

Video after the jump.

Phils just cleared cap room, and they’ll be cutting more fat (hah) when they deal Blanton. David Wright, anyone…

Not cap room, meant to say put some space between them and the threshold. But, let me steal a little thunder: “THERE’S NO SALARY CAP IN BASEBALL, TOOL!!!”

I admit, while I wasn’t surprised or sad to see Victorino go, watching this video does make me sad. I enjoyed having Pence as a Phillie. I think he was a good athlete, quirky at times, but that’s why I think we all enjoyed watching him. Good luck in San Fran, Hunter. I’ll miss you.

I don’t understand. Pence was a nice player, but hardly a guy that will get a standing O in Philly. He was a mercenary like Oswalt, and he didn’t work out, like Oswalt. I’m indifferent to him leaving. Victorino is a different story, it had to be done, but he’ll never have to buy a beer in this city again. Nor should he.

I agree with Rich. Pence helped last year’s team win 102 games, and look how that story ended. Shane was a key cog on the team that won the World Series. All things considered, I’ll miss Victorino more.

I really liked Hunter, but there are a few facts as to why this was a great set of moves, and I won’t even look at the returns:
    1. You cleared the luxury tax cutoff. this is great for two main reasons — one, the way that it is currently structured, teams that violate the limit the first year are slapped with a 20% fine on each dollar spent over the limit. 2nd year is 30%. Next year, the first offense is 17.5%, but the 2nd year is 30%. Also, in 2014, the limit goes from $178M to $189M. If the phils stay under this year, IT IS OKAY for them go to over next year, they’ll pay a lower % fine, and have more wiggle room to prevent paying the fine for the following year. This means a better chance of getting, as Rube put it, “One or two good free agents” this year, and that’s if they DO NOT move Lee.
    2. Pence will demand $13M next year. I don’t need to go all stats on you here, but you all know that he was a terrible fielder, and that he is a choke artist with RISP. He is CLEARLY dependent on who you bat around him, and he could not pull through this year. He brought a lot to this team as far as heart and personality went, but for the money he demands, we can definitely do better for the game of baseball. I will miss him, quirks and all, but at the end of the day this was the better move for the future of the team. If Ruben makes the best of this off-season, this team will get RIGHT back into it next year.
    I’m actually kind of pumped.

What are you pence lovers watching? He is a horrible defensive player, with a below average arm, not an exceptionally bright player on the basepaths, in 380 ab’s this year he’s struck out 85 times, RISP is horrible. Nice kid, his heart was in the right place but you’d ask the Phils to pay this guy 15 mil next year? really??? C’mon guys. Watching him play RF in San Fran with that wall should be good. You get a legit catching/firstbase prospect with pop. A utility outfielder with MLB experience, a cannon arm who’s a contact hitter and plays the game the right way. Plus a single A raw power arm. Thats a pretty good return.

Hey Chris why are you celebrating clearing the luxury tax?
It would have only meant a couple of hundred thousand dollars. They make that in one night in beer sales my section at the park. Why should we be happy about that.
They have to sign someone big this off season to compensate for the offense they just lost. If they settle for Bourn end up paying Bourn the same money Pence would have gotten they will still be scuffling to get out of the cellar next year.

Hard to watch. Since #3 is retired, did Pence pick #8 as an homage to our boy Shane?

    Ron,
The issue is not worrying about the couple hundred thousand this year, but the potential millions the following year. Remember, a 2nd year violator pays $.30 on the dollar, whereas next year a first-year violator will spend almost half that.
My suggestion is that the phils can cut corners this year to stay under, and then go significantly more over next year. In 2014, the limit goes from $178 to $189mil, so even if they go over by almost $11mil next year, they’ll pay the smaller amount, and only once, and then have more clearance.
To clear it up: if they were over this year, they’d pay 20% on this year’s overage, and next year’s penalty is 30%. If they stay under this year, then next year’s penalty is 17.5%. The cap is higher the following year, so they can bite the bullet for next year, pay the tax once, and hopefully be under the following year when the “cap” rises. This may encourage ownership to spend more next year to put us back in since the tax they’ll pay is less because of the moves they made this year.

You MORONS talking trash about Shane cheating on his wife have NO CLASS!!!! Yesterday marked an end of a great era from a helluva good man!!! I do think his time was up, but you JERKOFFS feel the need to be negative and show how miserable you are by talking Shit on Shane. People like you make me realize why Philly gets a bad rap, I understand why other cities/fans just HATE US, all it takes is 1 or 2 COCK SUCKERS to make an entire city look like TRASH. GET A LIFE, you NITWITS! One day, you will finally get laid and start showing some respect and class, but it’ll take some work for you to impress a nice woman, maybe one day you can get a nice piece of ass, until then, if you don’t have anything good to say, shut your HOLE!!!
