Les Bowen can finally rest now that Chip Kelly has broken his silence and said… exactly what we all expected him to say. And that would be this: [some via Bart Hubbuch of the NY Post]:

“We’re just moving in a different direction at the wide receiver position.”

“We just wanted to go in a difference direction. It had nothing to do with any article. Purely football.”

“We had no offers for DeSean. It doesn’t matter what we wanted, because we had no offers.” Surprised? “No, because that was a very expensive contract.”

Personality conflict? “No. Not once. I have no idea where that came from.”

“He never yelled at me. I never yelled at him on the practice field.”

“The best cornerback in football (Revis) got released, too. And he’s a hell of a player.”

Kelly just kept denying that the decision had anything to do with DeSean’s off-the-field issues and said it was strictly a football decision.

Kelly, Jeffrey Lurie and Howie Roseman were all in attendance at the Eagles’ 18th annual playground build, where they, you’re not going to believe this, build playgrounds. Perhaps the most interesting piece of information was from Lurie, who said that the decision to release DeSean came immediately at the end of the season.

The full video of the media scrum is here. Interestingly, the video dubbed over much of it features offensive highlights of Nick Foles throwing to every other receiver but DeSean last year. The Eagles propaganda machine putting in work today!

Side note: Just thought of this. DeSean was released right after the owners’ meetings, a month before Chip would be forced to talk to the media again… which was today, at a charity event. Well played, gentlemen.
