Really? The Disney team?

Really? The Disney team?

There’s a certain toughness to the Philadelphia sports fan. They don’t like it when you mention the snowballs at Santa thing, but every once in a while, there’ll be a little scuffle in the stands. It’s usually not a huge deal and is usually alcohol fueled. It’s a bad look, sure, but it’s not “unprovoked beating in the parking lot left him in critical condition” bad, like California.

This weekend at the brand new Levi’s Stadium, two San Francisco 49ers fans (who somehow avoid being called out as the most consistently vicious fans around) assaulted two men. In a bathroom. Before kick-off. There is no word on what caused the assault, but it isn’t unlikely that the victims were just Chiefs fans trying to pee.

And elsewhere in “California sports fans assault someone for no reason,” an Angels fan was viciously beaten in the parking lot after the team lost to the Royals on Friday night. And this wasn’t a post-game drunken scuffle, here’s what witnesses had to say:

“This man started running towards another, and just started beating this guy. He had two punches, the guy went down, he was out cold, and then he started beating his face really bad on the pavement … He continued to punch him while he was on the ground, and that’s what got me a little bit upset and a little bit scared. When he had ran a few steps away and came back, I started to get even more worried. Is he going to come after me and my mom, or go to anyone around, a witness?”

When those witnesses ran over to help the man, they said “he wasn’t breathing, so we went down to try to help, and we were trying to call someone to help. No one was coming, so he started turning purple.” The victim, who is reportedly a 43-year-old U.S. Marine veteran and a father of three, is in critical condition on life support. But please, tell me again about that time we threw snowballs at Santa in 1968.
