The Eagles lost a football game and somehow, as a society, we’ll get through this. Though we’ll never get past mom jeans.

The roundup:

Quick post-game thoughts.

The Eagles are reportedly interested in Vincent Jackson.

Ryan Lochte was leaving tips all willy nilly at Penn State Friday night.

On the field goal that gave the Eagles the 20-17 lead, Chip says he did think about going for the touchdown, but:

“I thought our defense was playing really, really well. I had confidence in them and told them we were kicking the field goal because I had confidence in them.”

Billy Davis says the defense played well, but just had to play better:

“Everybody knew what coverage we were in, we just had to play better. They made a play and we didn’t. They’ve got a lot of talented receivers. For the most part, during the day, the guys did a great job. But they made two ‘X’ plays on us, two real big ones. It’s the NFL. They made plays, we made plays. In the end, they made one more than we did.”

The Eagles are in the midst of a couple of streaks: 20 consecutive contests with at least one takeaway (longest since 1995), and their patchwork offensive line has just two sacks allowed in the last six games, “which is their best six-game stretch since sacks became an official stat in 1982.”

Chip Kelly doesn’t think the Eagles are going to do anything at the trade deadline:

“I think some of those rumors that are out there…I kind of chuckle at to be honest with you. I think the trade deadline is a little overblown in the NFL. I don’t anticipate us doing anything.”

Though he was limited in the game, Mychal Kendricks was happy to be back on the field and said his calf “felt good.”

LeSean McCoy thinks they should have run the ball more, which is the least surprising news of all time because LeSean McCoy’s job is to run the ball and also they should have.

Reuben Frank knows the Eagles are a good team as long as they’re not within the 5-yard-line:

In San Francisco, the Eagles couldn’t score from the 2-yard line in the fourth quarter and it cost them a game, and Sunday in Arizona, they couldn’t score from the 1-yard line in the fourth quarter and had to settle for a field goal, which ultimately cost them another game. Their only two losses this year. You’re not going to beat good teams on the road when you can’t convert in the red zone. The Eagles went into Sunday worst in the NFL in red-zone conversion and they were 0 for 2 against the Cards — along with a turnover at the goal line on a play just outside the red zone. With the weapons this offense has, they should not be worst in the NFL in the red zone.

Jeff McLane points out not only is Foles turning the ball over a lot more, he’s just throwing a lot more: “He already has attempted 299 passes in seven starts this season. Last year, he had 287 attempts in 10 starts.” Can’t run as much with the offensive line the way it is right now.

Chip didn’t run a goal line QB sneak with Foles because it didn’t work in Dallas last year: “I tried that against Dallas last year and it got shoved up our tails, so I wasn’t going to run that again.”

Huge block here. Really, really nice block:

Not sure what this picture is of Claude Giroux and Steve Mason, but something tells me that female Flyers fans are Photoshopping themselves into it:

Reader Nitro asks if I was sick of the Cardinals’ thiiiiiiiiiird doooooooooown nonsense. I was not. Respect it. The Eagles do something similar – chiming bells – on opponent third downs at home, so I have no issues with other teams doing it. It’s your home field advantage. If you can intimidate the opponent, then you do it. If I owned an NFL stadium, I’d Rick Roll opponents every time they touched the ball.

So Maclin needs a Gatorade endorsement:

Hey, and speaking of terrible fans who taunt injured players– here’s a Cardinals fan screaming at Maclin as he took the long walk (for real, how far is the tunnel in Arizona– 2, 3 miles?) to the locker room:

Cool hat, 3 2. Cool hat.

Villanova is #9 in the KenPom preseason rankings. Ho hum. This might be the year they win another national title.

Bleeding Green Nation’s winners and losers.

Levar Burton reads Go The F to Sleep.

Cardinals prospect Oscar Taveras died in a car crash in his native Dominican Republic.

NFL players keep injuring themselves with sack celebrations. Don’t they know that only Cristiano Ronaldo can pull of that move?

The Jets are pathetic.
