RADIO WARS: Here Are the (High-Level) Local Radio Ratings

People keep asking, so here are the local radio ratings, sent along by an anonymous tipster.

As you can see, WIP doubles 97.5 some months. But, this starts at 6 a.m. WIP has a dedicated morning show, 97.5 picks up Mike and Mike. [UPDATE: And, obviously, Eagles games.] We’re not comparing Apples to Apples. Things would be a lot different if 97.5 had, say, a big-name radio host to compete with WIP during morning drive time.

And unfortunately, these ratings are pretty readily available and not the ones errrrrybody wants– the timeslot breakdowns. At this point, I’d probably pay someone Riley Cooper money to leak those…

  1. As has already been said, the only way 97.5 could have a morning drive show originating from Philly would be if they were to break away from ESPN radio.

    Not gonna happen

    1. What I find funnies about this, is a listing of the stations that do significantly better than WIP FM in the standings.

      1) WBEB B-101 – Playing whatever the hell we feel like
      2) WDAS 105.3 – The hip hop station
      3) WXTU – The COUNTRY station
      4) WMGK – Classic Rock
      5) WMMR – Rock
      6) WOGL – the OLDIES station

Q102 and Power 99 are practically nipping at WIP’s heels. Maybe WMMR picked up a significant amount of former YSP listeners, but then again there are two rock stations on the list, so I am guessing that WMGK benefitted also. Even with that said, considering how popular WYSP was here in town, I have to think it had better ratings than what WIP is pulling in now. Looking at this list, and considering the house cleaning that has been quietly going on at WIP for a year now (Macnow, Eskin, Gargano, etc..) I wonder if CBS is starting to panic because maybe WYSP was actually doing BETTER than WIP is now.

      1. Kyle, why did you take down the rest of the ratings info and only leave the two sports stations ratings? That’s gay.

  2. Tony Bruno would have been perfect for a morning show at 97.5. Apparently, they need to air a certain amount of ESPN programming to maintain their ESPN affiliation, but I can’t see them overtaking WIP without a local morning show.

  3. I have it from an inside source that 97.5 has no interest in a philly based morning drive time show as their average listeners do not work and therefore no morning drive time.

  4. 97.5 is absolutely horrible from 12-2..Marks and Brace are just plain pathetic…What they need to do is put Joe Stasyzk on with someone in that time slot….It is poor childish radio from 12-2 IMO

    1. Good post, but extend the horrible hours from 12-2 to 12-6. Those two from 12-2 are nothing more than a pair of hacks and the arrogant loser from 2-6 is too self-absorbed to ever actually “listen” to comments of the callers. He is too eager to express his opinions.

  5. Actually kinda surprised in the age of iPods, Spotify, and Pandora that 5+ music stations still are doing really well in the ratings.

  6. For what it’s worth, you nitwits, the Nielsen/Arbitron ratings for the Philadelphia radio market are just a micro-sample taken from people paid to wear a device known as a “People-Meter”. The People Meter tracks listening habits of those with the device via a special tone embedded in each participating station’s signal. Ever see anyone with a People Meter? Didn’t think so. That’s because less than 2,000 people in the Delaware Valley have them. Who wants to walk around with a think that looks like a giant pager clipped to their belt for a few thousand bucks for a whole year? Only cretins, that’s who. These ratings are completely bogus, completely irrelevant to who or how many are actually listening and only used for sales and advertising so you can hear more Geico, Home Depot and McDonald’s ads.

    1. You obviously have some knowledge of how the ratings work and because you discount their accuracy, you more than likely work for a radio station. I’m guessing next you’ll tell us that the ratings were more accurate under the diary system, right? Please…

People Meter ratings are a thousand times more accurate than diaries ever were, and no one has come up with a better way to gather the data and I don’t think anyone will anytime soon.

      1. Don’t work in radio, but familiar with the dinosaur-like media platform that it is. People Meter may be more accurate, but it’s still a minuscule sampling of a metro with 6 million plus people living in it. Thus, those People Meter ratings are determined by less that 2,000 people in a metro of 6 million people. That’s like taking one eye dropper full of water from the Atlantic ocean to test to see if it’s polluted. When People Meter first came to Philly, the ratings landscape changed dramatically and stations were changing formats left and right. It has nothing to do with what the people like or want, genius, it only has to do with programming to affect the People Meter and the ratings to leverage for advertising dollars, most of which come from national accounts, not local businesses. Got it, nitwit?

  7. Calm down fellas. I know you all hate me. But come out to Pitchers Pub on Thursday where ill be serving $4.75 Miller Lites and taking pictures with anonymous drunk girls whose boyfriends told them I have a radio show!

    1. I’d rather watch that horrible show that Missanelli hosts than listen to Brace and Marks..I thought Ike Reese was the worst on Philly Radio until I heard these two meatballs..Sounds like two 7th graders at lunch butchering the English language

      1. 7th graders? Dude, that’s giving them way too much credit. My cousin is in 7th grade, and he and his friends are capable of correctly pronouncing the words “that” and “this.”

      2. To all my love slaves out there, Thunderlips is here. In the flesh, baby. The ultimate male versus the ultimate meatball

  8. Who has a problem with me? You know where to find me.

All just jealous b/c u girls want me.

Remember I’m on the radio and ur not.

    Holla.
    SB.

      1. That bald wigger will be pouring drinks full time come the new year. Hope you had fun playing radio guy shitstain, it’s coming to an end.

  9. Why does it seem like it takes rocket science to get the ratings from each time slot? This doesn’t seem like it should be so hard to do.

Mike Miss says he is the top of the ratings all the time so where is he getting that info from?

    1. He’s getting that info from the same place he gets all his other “facts”‘from: directly from his sphincter.

  10. I also would love to see the ratings breakdown on an hour to hour basis. You have a better chance of obtaining the nuclear launch codes that the President has than getting your hands on those ratings. They are proprietary and radio stations pay big money to subscribe to Arbitron to have that information. It is their lifeblood to calculate what to charge for ads and pay their employees.

  11. So many haters. Haha. I love it.

All you fat slobs playing keyboard tough guy. Call me those names to my face. Then we will see how strong u are. I will embarrass you and take ur girl.

Remember I’m in the radio and ur not.

    Merry Xmas d-bags.

    Holla
    SB

  12. I make enough bank to take ur girl out.

Hater gonna hate and all I do is keep on rising to the top.

Call me tomorrow cause I have my own show and u don’t.

    SB
