The Giants Have Their Eyes on Chase Utley

AVERT YOUR EYES WHILE MY CHASEY SHOWS HIS HUMANISM IF FOR JUST A MOMENT!

Jim Salisbury reports that the Giants had scouts in San Diego this weekend to see Utley, who went 4-for-10 with three doubles. But why was he playing so much after Ruben Amaro prematurely shoveled dirt on his career?

A showcase. No one would ever admit it, but that’s what’s going on here.

There are some teams interested in picking up Utley for the stretch drive and they need to gauge his health and productivity before taking the plunge.

The Cubs have had some interest. The Angels, too. The Yankees have been mentioned.

But the team that might have the most interest of all could be the San Francisco Giants. Joe Panik, their All-Star second baseman, is on the disabled list with lower back inflammation. He is expected to return, but Utley might be a nice insurance policy, not to mention a pinch-hitter and winning clubhouse presence.

The Giants had a scout in San Diego for the entire Phillies series and sources tell CSNPhilly.com that the scout was indeed keeping tabs on Utley.

As Salisbury points out, Utley resides in San Fran during the offseason, so the Giants are one team for which he would likely waive his no-trade rights (assuming he clears waivers). And his good buddy Pat Burrell went there and won a World Series (so did Hunter Pence– twice), so no doubt he’s being fed positive things about the club.

We could be nearing the end. Watching Cole go was one thing. Chase following behind him might be too much. Gotta start mentally preparing myself.

  2. I’m not sure I understand the agenda here sometimes. You routinely murder the team for not moving on from 2007-11, but when they are about to move players from the era, it’s like you don’t want them to. What’s it going to be?

    1. This is 100% accurate. Oh it will be so hard to watch a player who was a shell of his former self for the last 2-3 years leave! We’ll really miss his sub .200 batting average. Oh but he’s white and runs hard!

      1. Send that big piece of fucking monkey shit kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk machine away too.
        PHUCK OFF.

  3. so maybe Kyle Crick for Chase Utley and 8 million dollars, at this point I just trying to buy prospects, Crick has great stuff and velocity but there control issues with him

  4. Hey Sarah Baicker are you here?

next time you see me on BOB, tell me to stop posting attention seeking instagram pictures

    thanks xoxo!

  5. Since 2010, Utley is a .262 hitter and averages 10 and 49. Six years is four too many to hope for a turnaround.

  6. Can’t do it. The Phils have lost 30% of the fan base (attendance numbers) and now they want to alienate the remaining by giving him up for nothing? A 3rd round pick, maybe? Let him finish the season.

  7. What’s up with removing my comments from the previous post? All the shit that gets written on here ? There’s no explanation
