Curt Schilling's Hitler Tweet Got Him Pulled from ESPN for the Rest of the Season
Curt Schilling, who was previously removed from LLWS coverage by ESPN after he sent out an offensive, distasteful, and factually questionable tweet about Muslims and Hitler, will not return to the air this season.
ESPN has announced that Schilling “won’t be on telecasts for the rest of the regular season or the American League wild-card game on Oct. 6.” The release continued: “Curt’s actions have not been consistent with his contractual obligations nor have they been professionally handled; they have obviously not reflected well on the company.” Two additional factors didn’t help Schilling’s case.
First, is that instead of apologizing or taking his suspension quietly, he argued back and forth with Awful Announcing’s Dan Levy about what the tweet was trying to say and how he’s a God-loving conservative. Second is that Jessica Mendoza, who replaced Schilling in the booth and became the first woman to call an MLB game for ESPN as an analyst. She’s been getting rave reviews, opened her national baseball broadcasting career by calling a no-hitter, and as far as we know, doesn’t tweet super dumb and offensive things. She’s got the upper hand.
