Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin needed to hype up his football team before a game, so he reached out to Clemson grad Brian Dawkins. The video above (and transcript below, which doesn’t do it justice) mostly applies to football, but we can use it to hype ourselves up in everyday situations, like when you need to ask your boss for a promotion, or when you want to get a bartender’s attention, or when you decide it’s time to rip the skull off a lawn ornament because IT FUCKING WON’T STOP LOOKING AT YOU FUNNY. We can all be the Brian Dawkins we deserve.

“Hey, listen. Respect is not given, it is earned. Just because you want a step to happen, don’t mean it’s gonna happen. Right now I’m tellin’ you. They don’t respect us. They don’t respect us. But they don’t matter. Because guess what you can do when you don’t get respect? YOU CAN TAKE IT. YOU CAN TAKE THAT RESPECT. You can make a dude who got his fists balled up, make ’em unball they’re fists at your house. Do what you need to do this whole entire game. As a matter of fact, if what I say right now pertains to your group, I need to hear you say ‘I GOT THAT.’

[someone from the back yells ‘I GOT DAT SHIT’]

THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKIN’ ABOUT.

I NEED A BIG BLOCK. O-LINE: ‘I GOT THAT’

I NEED A SNOT [something unintelligible but badass] HIT GIVEN: ‘I GOT THAT’

I NEED A BIG CATCH: ‘I GOT THAT’

I NEED A BIG THROW: ‘I GOT THAT’

I NEED A BIG PLAY GIVEN ON THE SIDELINE [points to coaches]: ‘I GOT THAT’

That’s what I’m talking about. We gonna win this thing. Listen, we gon’ go out, and TAKE IT.”

Kyle: I just shit myself.
