Wait, what?

This is… something. Ian Rappppppoport, who loses a few Ps for what may have been an inaccurate report, tweeted yesterday, in no uncertain terms, that the Eagles planned on bringing back Gase for a second interview. But Reuben Frank… well, he pretty much shot that down, writing that not only have the Eagles not “scheduled” a second interview yet (could’ve just been a matter of semantics), but they haven’t even decided on their top candidate and won’t do so for some time:

But [a source familiar with the Eagles’ thinking] said no second interview has been planned yet with any candidate.

He said this doesn’t mean the Eagles weren’t impressed with Gase or they don’t consider him a good candidate.

It just means they are planning to go through the process and interview several candidates once before regrouping – probably at the end of next week – and determining who to place on a short list of candidates for second interviews.

Few things:

  1. End of next week? If true, that seems too long. A top candidate – Gase or anyone else – might not be willing to wait that long to see if the Eagles come through.
  2. In a way this makes sense, because if the Eagles have Doug Pederson scheduled for Sunday, they would either have had to cancel it if they liked Gase (previously reported to be interviewing this weekend, which would’ve left only Saturday open), or left Gase hanging for a day while they entertained Pederson (presumably with something shiny).
  3. So, just in case you thought Darren DeGaetano may have been right when he reported that Gase basically already has the job, this report from Frank pretty much put the nail in that coffin. Shocking.
  4. Blogging this coaching search is becoming as difficult as playing Leonardo DiCaprio’s role in The Revenant. Just a grueling iron man-like test of endurance.

And just for the hell of it, Les Bowen bitches:
