The roundup:

Peter King in his MMQB on Ben McAdoo, who was hired by the Giants:

Dirk Koetter and the Bucs, Doug Pederson and the Eagles, Mike Mularkey and the Titans … all coming soon. Today, I’m covering Hue Jackson in Cleveland and the Giants’ Ben McAdoo, who almost went 88 miles south down the Jersey Turnpike to Philly.

Have heard something very similar involving McAdoo and a transport to Philly. It’s very possible the Eagles were on the verge of hiring McAdoo last week before the Giants swooped in at the last minute.

Les Bowen, who deserves credit for breaking the coaching news last week:

WE’RE HEARING lots of names mentioned now as part of Doug Pederson’s potential Eagles staff – the Daily News’ Marcus Hayes is reporting that former Chargers offensive coordinator Frank Reich and current Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo could assume those roles here, and Fox Sports’ Alex Marvez said former Eagles safety Tim Hauck will assist Cory Undlin with the defensive backs.

Apparently, Pederson would like to pry former Eagles offensive coordinator (and ex-Vikings head coach) Brad Childress away from Kansas City in some capacity, and he also is keeping open the idea of a job for current offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur – perhaps as quarterbacks coach, with Ryan Day reportedly accompanying Chip Kelly to San Francisco.

Previous reports indicated former Lions head coach Jim Schwartz might be Pederson’s DC. All of Kelly’s assistants remain under contract, but the ones with close Kelly ties presumably will be allowed to go with him – Day, wideouts coach Bob Bicknell and defensive line coach Jerry Azzinaro, principally.

Oh boy, if you thought the end of the head coaching search got boring, that’s nothing compared to the snoozefest that will be trying to evaluate the merits of assistant coaches. Can we please get this over with soon? There is nothing less exciting but more Philly than web-batting coordinator rumors. Alas:

The Eagles are beginning to round out their crew of assistant coaches: Tim Hauck, he of ending Michael Irvin’s career, is reportedly in as assistant DBs coach. His last job was in 2013 as the defensive coordinator on his brother’s staff at UNLV.

Other roles being filled: Former Chargers OC Frank Reich seems set to fill that role under Doug Pederson. Steve Spagnuolo is rumored to be tied to the DC gig, but he’s under contract in New York. According to ESPN, there is also “a chance that Pederson brings in Brad Childress, who is on Reid’s staff in Kansas City, or retains Pat Shurmur, who was Chip Kelly’s offensive coordinator.” All of those men – save for Tim Hauck – have the same agent. Looks like Pederson’s coaching search is just asking his agent “who ya got?”

He’s also retaining Dave Fipp, Duce Staley and offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland.

Meanwile, Chip Kelly’s staff is starting to come together, including some assistants who worked under him with the Eagles.

Jeremy Maclin thinks Doug Pederson will do well here:

“I think he understands the personalities around a locker room. I think that’s the first important step of being a head coach. He’s a guy who understands how things are supposed to be done. I think he’s going to do great things. I’m excited for him. He deserves it, and I’m looking forward to seeing what he does up there.”

The Flyers are starting to put things together. They’re 5-0-1 in their last six games, and after starting the season 5-8-3, they have earned points in 20 of their last 27 games, going 15-7-5.

Claude Giroux tried to squeeze in an F-bomb before being interviewed. He doesn’t quite make it.

A Seahawks fan got into a fight at the Cardinals/Packers game, but of course they were all secretly Eagles fans.

This is fun:

I have no doubt Gargano’s source on that is SPAGS, since they were at the bar together last weekend.

I think it is laughable that the Eagles felt the need to consult outside help in Ron Jaworski and others (though I honestly think it is largely BS for the sake of perception). Still, Jaws is undoubtedly more knowledgable, watches more game film, and knows more people around the league than anyone to whom the Eagles have granted floor space in their executive suite. So I don’t get why David Murphy wrote this:

Really? Ron Jaworski? A guy who has never stood on the sidelines as an NFL coach? A guy who has never held an official title in an NFL front office? A guy who sends me emails every day about deals on tee times? Even if my friends are correct and it is not actually him at the computer?

Hey, maybe Adam Gase is a big Jaworski fan. Maybe he doesn’t miss an episode of “NFL Matchup.” Maybe he listened to Jaws declare on the radio in 2014 that Russell Wilson was “not particularly close” to being as good as Nick Foles and he said to himself, “You know, the man’s got a point.” Maybe Gase agreed with Jaworski’s proclamation that Colin Kaepernick might soon establish himself as an all-time great.

But what if he didn’t? What if he walked into the interview room and came face-to-face with a guy whom he regarded as just another average NFL quarterback turned talking head? What if, every time Jaworski asked a question, Gase thought to himself, “How in the world is this guy asking me to defend my offensive scheme? Does he really know more than me about what it takes to run an NFL team?”

By all accounts, Jaws is super knowledgeable (not an act) and well-respected around the league… which is why I think the Eagles want you to think he had a lot more say than he actually did.

Is it just me, or is SpaceX’s failed attempt to land a rocket on a barge a metaphor for the Eagles coaching search, with Pederson being the fourth leg?

Speaking of metaphors, this is what will happen to Wade Phillips, figuratively, when his overrated defense takes on the Pats next week.

Oh look, major tennis matches may be fixed. I genuinely disdain every version of that sport except for Mario Tennis on N64.

Reader Chris (@cma8615) sends his timeline after Aaron Rodgers’ hail mary (which, yes, my Nest cam captured again):

And the actual reaction:

Here’s the actual Hail Mary.

Pats women go crazy for Edelman and I can’t really blame them. Strong beard, fast legs.

Richard Deitsch on what NBC will do after Al Michaels leaves Sunday Night Football, which probably isn’t happening anytime soon.

Strat-O-Matic Baseball is relaunching today (!), but this time as a modern digital game updated daily. It sounds incredibly data dependent (good thing). Looks like there will be a mobile component.

STORMCAST 2016: Local news is preparing for the blizzard of the millenium falcon:

But even the National Weather Service won’t issue snowfall totals because it’s just too early to tell. Here’s what they posted:

Good Morning Facebook Friends! We know there are a lot of questions about the weather for this weekend, so here’s an update on what we’ve got in the forecast for now:

• Precipitation is likely across nearly all of the region
• The primary time frame for wintry precipitation is expected to be from late Friday through Saturday night (January 22-23)
• At this point, precipitation type looks to be mostly snow for our region, except for southern Delmarva and coastal southern New Jersey which may see a period of a rain and snow mix.
• Due to the inherent uncertainty with systems this far out (currently this system is still out over the Pacific!), we only produce snow amount forecasts for events within 72 hours (3 days). Thus, we probably won’t be producing a snow amount forecast for this event until at least Wednesday afternoon. Note if you visit http://www.weather.gov/phi/winter you’ll see a snow forecast for a different event on Wednesday night (snow totals with this event are generally expected to be less than one inch)
• We recommend that you keep an eye on the forecast as we get closer as things can and do change. For the latest forecast for your location visit www.weather.gov/phi

Bernie Sanders wants a new new healthcare plan. You’re going to be hearing a lot about this if he wins:

It’s a plan to create a single-payer health care system, which means the government would provide everybody with insurance directly. Sanders is calling it “Medicare for All,” because Medicare, which provides government-financed insurance to the elderly, is the closest thing to a single-payer system in the U.S. But that term actually understates the ambition of what he is proposing.

Sanders wouldn’t just replace existing private insurance plans. He would also replace existing public plans — including Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Plan and the private plans available through the Affordable Care Act. He’d even upgrade the coverage that Medicare provides. To pay for this plan, Sanders would replace existing insurance premiums with taxes and put a huge squeeze on the drug industry — the kind that would be extremely difficult to push through the political system.

If it needs a name, allow me to offer up: Bern Care.

And now to balance that Bernie Sanders bit with FOX News’ story about the Americans missing in Iraq.

First off– I don’t give a shit what willing participants in MMA, boxing, football, or even hockey do to themselves if they sign up for it and are well compensated. But I genuinely don’t get the outrage about concussions in football and hockey when the country willing embraces UFC. LOOK. AT. THIS:

If this happened in the NFL there would be a government inquisition. In UFC? DIS DUDE CRAZY!
