Phillies Minor League Pitcher Suffers Terrifying Exercise Eye Injury

Published:

Former Phillies second-round pick and current Clearwater Threshers pitcher Matt Imhof suffered a possibly career-ending eye injury during a post-game workout. According to Matt Gelb, he was using a resistance band anchored to a wall when “the mounted base broke off the wall” and struck Imhof in the right eye. He has undergone surgery. Imhof was 4-3 with a 3.91 ERA in Clearwater this year.
A quick search of similar setups shows that the mounted base was likely metal or a hard plastic, coming at Imhof’s eye at an alarming rate. It just goes to show you: Never exercise.
