Joel Embiid probably won’t play in the summer league. GM Bryan Colangelo said Embiid playing in Summer League is still technically a possibility, but no, he won’t do it: “There’s no timeline [for Embiid to play in summer league]. But until I hear a doctor tell me ‘No summer league,’ I will always say anything’s open. But the likelihood of him playing summer league is nil.” [UPDATE: And he’s officially out.]

The Sixers have reportedly been talking to half of the NBA about trading Okafor or Noel. We know that the Hawks and Sixers talked (at least) about a Noel/Jeff Teague swap. We haven’t heard much on the Okafor front, but reportedly he’s the dude they’d rather deal. “The Sixers are shopping Okafor and center Nerlens Noel to other NBA teams. The franchise is expected to trade the player who brings them a better deal,” according to Keith Pompey. “Sources have said that the team would prefer to trade Okafor.” The Celtics, who were linked to Okafor talks around the trade deadline, are reportedly “aggressively shopping” the number three overall pick.

And finally, the Sixers’ Executive Assistant to the President, Marlene Barnes, has passed away after 39 years with the franchise. Barnes received a modicum of name recognition when she was mentioned in Sam Hinkie’s now infamous resignation letter. Here’s what Hinkie said, in part:

Some tradition awaits us everyday at the office. I inherited Marlene Barnes as my executive assistant, a widowed lifelong Philadelphian that joined the Sixers in the fall of 1977. I was born in the winter of 1977. Marlene has worked for 11 different GMs and 5 head coaches at the Sixers. The names evoke many memories for you lifelong Sixers fans and students of history like me: Pat Williams, John Nash, Gene Shue, Jim Lynam, John Lucas, Brad Greenberg, Larry Brown, Billy King, Ed Stefanski, Rod Thorn… Her presence served as an everyday reminder to me of the impermanence of my leadership. I told her within a few weeks of working together that when I see her in the mornings I’m reminded that I am a steward—today’s steward—of her Sixers.

Well said.
