Les Bowen Is In Rare Form Already
Oh Christ Jesus the woodworker. We’re not even a full day into Eagles training camp and Les Bowen has already complained about 1) access and 2) the state of media.
I know some readers think I pick on Les too much, but he makes it so damn easy. Like why even Tweet this? Here’s a thought: Rather than bitch about the fact that the news cycle no longer waits on newspaper reporters to write an article a day later, or six hours later, or even an hour later, why not do something different – original or otherwise interesting – and stop relying on vanilla quotes from press conferences? Les is actually a pretty good reporter when he wants to be. But what we see here is a sad old man’s lament of the state of media because his role has been commoditized. Social media waits for nothing and no one, certainly not a mundane recap a few hours later. If something truly interesting happens, the team, another reporter, or just a highly-engaged fan, watching online anyway, will make sure the good stuff gets out there in real-time. We’re all fighting the social media beast, and even posts that I wrote six years ago when I started the site would never fly today because the speed of Twitter moves too quickly for them to be worthwhile. But constantly lamenting the state of things as if the world was better for anyone but Les when we all had to wait until the following morning to hear the carefully considered and empty nothingness from press conferences is just the lamest thing and a self-serving gripe that literally no one gives a shit about.
