Former Bemidji State (real school, I promise) defensive back and Willingboro, NJ native Troy Beckett wants a shot at making it in the NFL. And how has he figured he’ll go about that? By standing outside of the NovaCare Complex with a cardboard sign. The best way to get attention might not be the go-to method of homeless people – the most ignored people in the city – but it’s his plan.

On top of that, Beckett isn’t even being original. He’s standing outside NovaCare with a sign that reads “Not homeless but starving for a shot !!! #Trulyblessed & Never Stressed … Will Run Defensive Back Drills For Food #UnderDog.” As Matt Lombardo points out, “Beckett is not the first player to stand outside a team facility hoping to land a job — Joe Anderson signed with the Jets practice squad in 2015 after standing outside the team facility holding a sign that read ‘Not homeless … But starving for success, will run routes for food.” And he’s out there today because he said he’s been “putting [it] off for a little bit,” and been “kind of lackadaisical” about it. A dude who basically copied someone else’s idea, dragged his feet on even trying it, and is hoping for a tryout just as the team is making tough decision on who to keep and who to cut? GIVE HIM A CONTRACT.
