Roundup: JoJo, Open Practice, and Sixers E-Sports Media Rollout
As part of a series of profiles on Rookies across the league, the NBA’s official YouTube channel put up a short video on Joel Embiid – the free-throw stealer. It doesn’t really show too much of his skills, but I will never get tired of hearing Embiid speak:
The Sixers are off until their next pre-season game on Friday, so they’re hosting an Open Practice this Wednesday at the Liacouras Center. It’s free, but you still need a ticket. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll catch the rarest Sixers sight of all: Nik Stauskas making a shot.
And we can’t do a Sixers roundup without linking to Business Insider or CNet or Venture Beat. So, here’s all three: The Sixers rolled out press today through Biz Journal, CNet, Venture Beat, and ESPN (gotta get one sports media company in there) because they hired a new CEO for Team Dignitas, their e-sports franchise. They hired Jonathan Kemp, who formerly headed Eidos Interactive in the UK, and served as the “International Olympic Committee’s interactive entertainment partner during the London Olympic Games in 2012.” For what it’s worth, Dignitas isn’t trusting the process. In the ESPN report, chairman Greg Richardson said “when the opportunity to work with Jonathan came along, it felt like it was too good of an opportunity to pass up to get someone of his caliber in. So we kind of accelerated our plans.” Keep that man away from Bryan Colangelo*.
*I don’t think Bryan Colangelo gives the smallest shit about e-sports.
