For the second time in the last few weeks, the Eagles have reached out of the usual rotation to help cure their offensive woes. First, it was Bryce Treggs, the young speedster who showed flashes but also played like a guy called up from the practice squad. Now, it’s Paul Turner.

Before the Eagles activated Treggs, there were people clamoring for Turner to be the one given a shot. In the preseason, the undrafted Louisiana Tech wideout caught 15 passes for 144 yards. The Eagles hope adding another receiver to the fold will at the very least give them more options, if not better ones.

The move is a reactionary one after the receiver corps, namely Nelson Agholor, had another abysmal game. Doug Pederson said today that he doesn’t know if they’ll do anything about Agholor’s numerous issues in the softest way possible:

Sometimes, sometimes — and this is just me speaking, it’s not a decision by any means — but sometimes you have to take a step back in order to go forward. Sometimes that can help clear your head. I remember as a quarterback back in 1999 when Andy [Reid] pulled me out and put Donovan [McNabb] in, it was a step back to possibly go forward and see it differently. And that way, too, you can begin to clear your head and see it where you don’t have the pressure of performing on your all the time…

I will definitely have a conversation with Nelson and I’ll address that as we get later in the week. Those are definitely concerns that I have, now that he’s obviously come out and said that publicly. My concern is for him as an individual, as a person. I want to make sure he’s in a good spot.

“Hey, listen, sometimes, maybe, every once in a while, when things are sometimes maybe not going the greatest, you gotta possibly, sometimes, make a move that we may or may not make sometimes.” Though subjective, Jimmy Kempski calculated that the Eagles went into yesterday’s game with 24 drops on the year. They dropped four passes yesterday.

UPDATE: The post originally said Treggs was called up from the practice squad. Treggs was on the 53-man roster but inactive for the first few weeks of the season.
