So I had Josh Innes on the podcast. We actually didn’t talk much about the Mike Missanelli feud because there really wasn’t much to discuss– Josh hurled bombs at him for two years, sometimes Mike retaliated, and ultimtely Josh got fired. What I was more interested in, however, was Josh’s bomb throwing at some of his colleagues, particularly Anthony Gargano. Josh didn’t pull any punches:

“Let’s go to Gargano. So when I got there, Gargano never liked me. I never did anything to him, and he never liked me and people would tell me that behind the scened he’d say ‘guy isn’t gonna make it in philly, guy isn’t very good,’ so I took that personally. And for me, if you’re gonna say something behind the scenes like some big Billy Badass then I’m gonna go on the air with it. So if you wanna come after me and not tell me that you think I suck but go chirp to your little minions back there that I suck, then I will go on the air and make fun of the lousy shit that you do. And I think that he’s a really lousy radio host, so I would make fun of him. And we did the bit eventually where Justin would come in and do the bit [the guy who used to do the voice of Cuz for us] but Andy would never let me do that. I’d say ‘Andy let me bring on this fake Cuz guy’ and he’d say ‘no don’t do that you’re gonna cause a war I don’t need that right now.’ I said fine, but I’m going to take shots at them, so then Cuz would go run to Andy and complain about what I was doing. Well you guys behind the scenes would say all this shit about me…

I remember one time, one of the lamest, most white bread pieces of radio ever was the Fellas in the Afternoon. It was Rob and it was Cuz, right? And they were doing a topic – I was wearing an Eagles sweatshirt that day – and their topic was “How do you feel when a guy you hate is wearing your team colors?” And I’m like, are you guys fucking 12? You guys are the worst piece of shit radio people ever, and all of this, so I don’t feel bad about anything I’ve ever said bad about Gargano because I think Gargano was a bad person. I think he’s a lousy person. I think he carries on this persona of being this yuck-yuck nice guy. I think behind the scenes he’s a shithead. I don’t like him. So no, that I don’t regret.”

“People blame me for taking [Rob Ellis’] job, but really Anthony ran that fucking show into the ground. You listen to that show you think Rob enjoyed being the whipping boy to fucking Cuz? That’s why he wanted him on there so he could whip him around a little bit. That’s a fact. So he put him on there, that show then went straight to hell. It wasn’t my fault they brought me in to take over that spot. Could I have handled things better and not been as critical of people? Maybe. But sometimes I don’t know how to shut up.”

“Macnow got railroaded by Gargano bad. People think I’m bad? Macnow got railroaded like a motherfucker but nobody cares. Yet I come in and take shithead’s job and oh I’m awful.”

Fun.

He was more complimentary of Tony Bruno and Jody Mac:

“I got why they put Tony on there. He’s a legend in the market, it would help people accept me faster, and to be honest we had a pretty good show. There were stretches where there were really good shows in there. I got the vibe, and he never told me this, but I got the vibe that he always wanted to do his own thing. And he had this thing with his girlfriend and his girlfriend, I don’t know if she liked me or not, I don’t think she did. I never did anything to her, to be fair, but I think that she always kinda envisioned it like when he was at Fox, at the end of the night, they thought maybe it should’ve been more him, less me, and what they were told, from what I’ve been told, is that I was gonna lead the thing but we were gonna be kinda partners.”

“I like him as a person. Me, him, and Sludge went to Vegas together for one of those fights and we had a blast. Tony has stories for days, I respect him as a radio guy, he’s very accomplished, and I mean that, I’m not saying that to kiss his ass.”

“I genuinely like the guy. I think the show was good. There were stretches where it was good and I don’t agree with everything he said on the air, but I think that kinda worked. And you have the old guard type people who thought I was a piece of shit, and you had the people that liked me. It had a dynamic that works. They loved the old man, young guy thing, they loved that.”

“What I always wanted was a guy like Jody Mac. And the reason is he’s not a guy who is out there trying to fight to be a number one host. He’s been around the game a long time, solid radio professional, encyclopedia of knowledge. I always told them, gimme a guy who knows how to play off of me, who has an appeal to the upper end of the demo, will laugh, will have fun, won’t take himself too seriously, and if I have a question, he’ll know the answer. That’s what I was looking for.”
