I love how the Flyers’ social media people were so dumbfounded by getting the second pick that they seemingly panicked and just threw a picture of Ron Hextall looking perplexed into a graphic. We call… stunner.

The Flyers were just mediocre enough last season to not give themselves a fighting chance at a top pick in the draft. In fact, they had only a 2.4% chance of landing the second pick and just over a 6% chance of landing a top three pick in what many consider to be a two-player draft. They somehow landed the number two pick.

Maybe things are starting to turn around. The Eagles just had a solid draft and our city was lauded for the way it hosted the event, so much so that there seems to be a reasonable chance it returns next year. The Phillies are playing somewhat respectable baseball. The Flyers just landed the number two pick. Now all we have to do is wait for the Sixers to crush the lottery, draft a stud, and for Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons to return to the court at 100% and dominate the watered down East.

I’m not a prospect guy, but Dan is, and since we won’t get his take on the lottery until the summer vacation weeks, I asked for his thoughts through text message:

Well consider me all boned up now. We’re back, baby! Maybe.
