The Story of a Pittsburgh Website Hacking Their Former Reporter's DMs Is Insane
Few things:
- I had no idea DK Pittsburgh Sports existed before I saw these Tweets yesterday. It looks like a fairly comprehensive, well-put-together site, with credentialed reporters– every quality site needs those.
- This is BANANAS. Never mind that whole invasion of privacy thing, how do you not know your DMs are being read for a full year? Wouldn’t the unread notifications just disappear? Then again, if you’re like me and have unread text messages approaching triple digits and a comma in your unread emails, it’d be pretty to slip by a few stolen messages.
- I kind of respect the Journalistic(?) gumption to do this. Yeah, I mean it’s probably illegal and all, but that’s one hell of a way to get the story. Even Rupert Murdoch is awe-struck at the level of sophistication here. I’m not sure anyone gives a shit about the Pirates prospects this guy was reporting on it, but I like the competitive spirit.
- Truth is, I’ve been doing this to Tim Panaccio for years. Unfortunately, all it’s ever turned up is aimless missives to Italian restaurants asking if they accept a corporate Amex. Alas.
