Mike Vecchione’s Brother Isn’t Happy About the Flyers’ Roster Decision

The Flyers trimmed their roster Wednesday by sending forwards Mike Vecchione and Mikhail Vorobyev to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

Joe Vecchione, Mike’s brother, tipped us off to the move last night with this Tweet, which has since been deleted:

He followed up this morning with a more tempered opinion:

Vecchione signed as an undrafted free agent out of Union College, where he skated alongside Flyers defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere. The 24-year-old made his NHL debut in April and played two of the final three games.

That news was also shared by Joe Vecchione, who spilled the beans with another deleted Tweet.

We’ll see what happens in Allentown, and whether or not Vecchione makes it back to the NHL later this season.

He said this a few days ago about the looming roster decision:

“Obviously I’d like to be up here with these guys. But if they decide I need to go down there to get the ice time and develop, I’ll deal with that too. I’m pretty stoic about the whole (thing). I’m not laid back. If it happens, it’s not going to be easy by any means. But I’ve been through this plenty of times, although, in this case it’s a little different because it’s the best league in the world.”

Vecchione was a sought-after UDFA who could have signed with a couple of other teams rather than the Flyers. He was a 2017 Hobey Baker Award finalist.

  1. As-is, this is a *yawn*. If you would have broken the story last night, after the tweet… Then it would be interesting.

  2. This guy had no clue I was gonna destroy his chance from playing in the NHL this year. SUCK IT!!!!!!!

    1. AND YOU TURN OUT ??? NOT A CHANCE C- MID TERM
BUST…… PUT VECC UP AGIANST YOU AND HE WILL DESTROY YOUR PRETTY BOY
SILVER SPOON FEED ASS .. CANT KEEP UP WITH HE BIG BOYS..THEY CAN SURROUND YOU WITH THE BEST AND YOU STILL STRUGGLE
BET THE FLYERS WISH THEY CHOOSE NICO… A TRUE TOP DRAFT PICK

  3. Mike Vecchione is a very dedicated , hardworking player. He is from a great family, he has a lot of class. He will give 125%, 100% of the time. We will see him playing for the Flyers in the near future. Keep doing what you do Mike !!!

  4. He’ll be with the Flyers next season when they need a center to replace Filpulla. Patrick will move up to be the permanent 2nd line center and Vecchione will slide in at the #3 spot. A 3rd line of Lindblom, Vecchione and TK would be awesome!
