This is hard to swallow.

While sites like Pro Football Focus can often siphon out bias and distill accurate observations of SPORT, it’s takes like this one that render almost everything they do useless. Even when you go beyond the surface take of “Wait, Carson and the Browns quarterback who lost 31-7 yesterday and completed under 50% of his passes?” basic stats and observations prove this to be a farce.

Carson Wentz was 17-of-31 for 242 yards and a touchdown.

Deshone Kizer was 16-of-34 for 114 yards with an interception.

EVEN when you dig deeper, and rewatch portions of the Browns game like I just did (…), it becomes clear that Kizer was woeful. Truly dreadful. Sure, his wide receivers had a few drops that hurt him, but he routinely made just terrible throws. Even some of his completions were dead ducks. He was awful and looked nothing like an NFL quarterback.

Now, to be fair, some of the critique of Wentz is accurate. We marvel at his ability to evade the rush, but he does tend to get carried away and hurried in situations where that NEED NOT be the case. The best I can liken it to is when you’re scrambling in Madden and mash the turbo button and thus lose the ability for precision moves. That’s Wentz, sometimes, when he’s scrambling in the pocket.

But everything else here is wrong. He was quite good yesterday, using both timing routes and over-the-top passes to complement a dynamic running game. He escaped blitzes, dove for a first down, and didn’t turn the ball over.

This grade is truly garbage.
