The President of ESPN Just Resigned

Didn’t see this one coming.

John Skipper, ESPN’s president since 2012, is resigning:

Today I have resigned from my duties as President of ESPN.

I have had a wonderful career at The Walt Disney Company and am grateful for the many opportunities and friendships. I owe a debt to many, but most profoundly Michael Lynton, George Bodenheimer and Bob Iger.

I have struggled for many years with a substance addiction. I have decided that the most important thing I can do right now is to take care of my problem.

I have disclosed that decision to the company, and we mutually agreed that it was appropriate that I resign. I will always appreciate the human understanding and warmth that Bob displayed here and always.

I come to this public disclosure with embarrassment, trepidation and a feeling of having let others I care about down.

As I deal with this issue and what it means to me and my family, I ask for appropriate privacy and a little understanding.

To my colleagues at ESPN, it has been a privilege. I take great pride in your accomplishments and have complete confidence in your collective ability to continue ESPN’s success.

I doubt this is a fall-on-the-sword thing after the Disney acquisition of FOX. Though the timing is interesting, I doubt one would prefer the substance abuse route over just an outright layoff.

Bodenheimer was the president of ESPN from 1998-2012, during inarguably their most successful run, though how much of that had to do with programming rather than cable carriage fees is debatable. Either way, ESPN is in capable hands for the time being.

  1. Yeah sure. I believe all of this.
    Why now?
He just shit canned 150 people and even more than that in the spring.
Just a coincidence? holmie don’t think so.

Something is fishy with this and needs to be looked into.

  2. he got a contract extension 30 days ago.
5 days ago disney bought all of Fox’s RSN’s.
He made Jemele Hill the face of the network.
He’s def got some kind of problem.

id bet this is another #metoo thing that’s gonna hit.

    1. When Kyle commits copyright infringement by selling those hack shirts, do you think
he ‘looks beyond the numbers’? as in the number of dollar he’ll pay in stolen royalties
and the number of years of prison time he’ll do?

do you pay the lawn care guy with your ill gotten gains?
or do you make your wife cut the lawn also?

    2. Correct, having coached 50 games, he is officially the 2nd worst coach in NFL history. Eagles coach Bert Bell is the worst.

  3. I think you gotta consider giving this job to Aton Shander.

He is a real media mogul and has an eye toward the future. He’s smart, diligent, prepared and has a giant c0ck.

  4. Maybe now ESPN will get rid of all the bullshit political coverage and get back to sports.

  5. Thank God for President Trump. Its about time we had a leader who puts America first. This new national security plan is awesome.

      1. It’s gotten to the point that when it comes to Muslims, unfortunately Peter will now pay for Paul. Muslims need to do some serious in-house cleaning. If there wasn’t an issue with Muslim terrorists, then they wouldn’t be on any security lists. What do you want, more tragedies with suicide bombers and the like, or a safer nation. Unfortunately can’t have it both ways, gotta crack some eggs to make the omelet in this case

  6. Espn needs to get rid of that racist show at 6. Heard they are dedicating the show tonight to diddy buying Carolina and giving kap a job

  7. Why cant these dudes just, you know, deny that they ever did anything? aren’t they, you know, innocent until proven guilty?

  8. 9.99…. “I didn’t see this one coming”…. “I doubt this is a fall-on-the-sword thing”…. Kyle, YOU ARE A BASEMENT BLOGGER IN THE PHILADELPHIA SUBURBS…. YOU HAVE NO INSIGHT, “EDGE”, OR ANALYSIS THAT IS WORTHWHILE WHEN IN IT COMES TO GLOBAL MEDIA ENTITIES…. you are no more connected to these types of situations than a Wawa deli clerk (and we actually respect/like/value Wawa deli clerks, not you)…. focus on your skill set: (1) print bad/unoriginal t-shirts, hope they sell (2) copy/paste other work from the internet, infer that its yours (3) wear awkwardly tight pants (4) when exiting your basement/terribly constructed home, run fast so no one swirlies you

  9. It’s a shame you don’t have a donate button! I’d certainly donate to this superb blog! I suppose for now i’ll settle for book-marking and adding your RSS feed to my Google account.I look forward to new updates and will talk about this blog with my Facebook group.Talk soon! Game Hack

  10. Unquestionably believe that which you said.Your favorite justification appeared to be on the net the easiest thing to be aware of.I say to you, I definitely get irked while people think about worries that they just do not know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top as well as defined out the whole thing without having side-effects , people could take a signal. Will probably be back to get more. Thanks
