Hey there you fahckers from Bahston, you suck and may you experience the pain and humility of getting your ass hammered in the Super Bowl this week. HOWEVER, we’d like to extend a long and hard, and sincere, apology to your fan base and even the Patriots for this Bob Brookover column today in which Brookover, a genuine idiot, used Aaron Hernandez as a crutch to question… the Patriots… decency?

Spygate and Deflategate fall into those categories, but the one subject they want to skirt more than any other is the violent and tragic career of the late Aaron Hernandez. Perhaps that’s because Hernandez’s draft selection, despite bright red flags everywhere, is a reflection of how winning means everything to the Patriots and no cost is too high.

He had been released in June 2013 almost immediately after the Lloyd murder charge was filed. The Patriots put out this statement on their web site: “A young man was murdered last week and we extend our sympathies to the family and friends who mourn his loss. Words cannot express the disappointment we feel knowing that one of our players was arrested as a result of this investigation. We realize that law enforcement investigations into this matter are ongoing. We support their efforts and respect the process. At this time, we believe this transaction is simply the right thing to do.”

The shame of the matter is that the Patriots, and specifically coach Bill Belichick, acted as if they could not possibly know something so awful would ever happen despite the fact that Hernandez had a troubled past at the University of Florida and in his hometown of Bristol, Conn.

Bob does not represent us. We are not this stupid. Oh don’t get me wrong– we’re stupid. Really stupid. Our top news story for the last day has been about how police are not greasing poles because it wouldn’t stop us from climbing them anyway. But we can also separate two opposing thoughts, like the Patriots are bad because they cheat and Aaron Hernandez killed a guy and the Patriots probably don’t actually condone murder. Brookover, in his quest for relevance and takes, reached so far to try to equate the Patriots’ drafting of Hernandez, one of many professional athletes with a questionable past, with some sort of complacency in murder. That’s the shit that makes us look bad. Really, we’re not this dumb, and as much as I think Belichick is a cheating asshole, Brady is a phony lunatic who cares about little else than his image, and Boston people are the human equivalent of a soaked bar towel, we do not, in any way, shape or form, believe that the Patriots are responsible for Aaron Hernandez being a murderous psycho. Carry on.
