I’d summarize the past few weeks with the Tears for Fears song “Mad World“. The mood is perfect.

After the Phillies collapsed, we all thought the Eagles would lift our spirits and continue the dominance they showed last season. That was not the case after a 23-21 loss to the Vikings on Sunday. To make matters worse, Jay Ajayi tore his ACL and is done for the season. As of now, the team also reportedly is not interested in Le’Veon Bell even though Howie Roseman restructured Fletcher Cox’s contract.

Fun stuff.

The Stefen Wisniewski-Isaac Seumalo situation doesn’t appear to be a problem publicly, but is it privately? I hope not. Kyle doesn’t think the Eagles are screwed.

An estimated injury report for Thursday night’s game against the Giants was released as well.

Corey Clement was a full go.

As for the Flyers, it’s really early in their season but they already have injury problems. James van Riemsdyk is out 5-6 weeks with the very specific lower-body injury after blocking a shot in the first period in a 5-2 loss to the Colorado Avalanche. The Flyers have their home opener tonight against the San Jose Sharks at 7 PM on NBCSN.

Despite all of this negativity, we have fans drinking beers out of shoes. There is some hope in the world.

How about the Sixers! They played over in China again on Monday in a 115-112 loss to the Dallas Mavericks. Dario Saric didn’t play due to lower-back soreness and is apparently day-to-day. The preseason is done and the Sixers have a week before their season opener in Boston against the Celtics.

Markelle Fultz will start games in the regular season despite fouling out yesterday, but he might come off the bench in the second half.

“It didn’t have anything to do with Markelle being in foul trouble,” Brown said. “Part of my responsibility is to be able to put these guys in environments with different combinations and try to figure that out as quickly as I’m able. I believe that Markelle is at his best with the ball, and so when you watch how I substitute and determine patterns, when you bring him off the bench in the second half you’re able to get him like four or five more minutes as a point guard. I believe it’s something that we’ll continue to look at. Again, it was done for that reason.”

Redick playing with the rest of the Sixers’ starters has proven to be a potent lineup. According to NBA Advanced Statistics, that group outscored opponents by 268 points in 601 minutes last season, the best plus-minus of any five-man lineup in the league by a margin of 99 points.

Asked if he was sticking with Fultz to start games, Brown said, “I am. I am.”

Fultz fouled out in 19 minutes in the loss to the Mavericks, ending an underwhelming preseason for him on the heels of a rookie season in which he was sidelined for 68 games by a shoulder injury and mysterious deterioration of his shooting mechanics and fell out of Philadelphia’s playoff rotation.

Some Phillies news, kind of. Sixto Sanchez won’t pitch in the Arizona Fall League after he suffered a setback.

In other sports news, Saints quarterback Drew Brees broke Peyton Manning’s all-time passing yards record in a 43-19 win over the Redskins.

Brock Holt became the first player in MLB history to hit for the cycle in the postseason in a 16-1 Red Sox win over the Yankees. Boston leads their ALDS series 2-1. Game 4 is tonight.

The Dodgers and Astros wrapped up their LDS series with wins over the Braves and Indians, respectively.
