A terrible story here.

David Barnett, the older brother of Eagles defensive end Derek Barnett, was killed in a hit-and-run car wreck early this morning, according to a report from The Tennessean:

David Barnett, 33, was killed in a two-vehicle crash reported at 3:25 a.m. near the intersection of Burkitt Road and Whittemore Lane in South Nashville, Metro Nashville police reported.

Patrick Abernathy, a player development coach for the University of Tennessee athletic department, confirmed the siblings’ relationship.

Alcohol played a role in the deadly crash. Authorities have charged 47-year-old Tennessee resident Felipe Castelblanco with vehicular homicide by intoxication.

Derek Barnett was a first-round draft pick by the Eagles out of the University of Tennessee. He registered the key fumble recovery that clinched the Eagles’ 41-33 Super Bowl 52 win over the Patriots last February. Barnett registered 2.5 sacks in six games this season, but was put on injured reserve after undergoing shoulder surgery back in late October.

Our condolences go out to Barnett and his family.
