Matt Burke looks to be reuniting with Jim Schwartz in Philadelphia.

The Dolphins’ defensive coordinator found himself out of a job after the recent firing of Adam Gase. Burke coached the Detroit linebackers from 2009 to 2013, the same time period in which Schwartz was the Lions’ head ball coach.

Writes Darin Gantt at Pro Football Talk:

Burke was the Dolphins’ coordinator the past two years, after being promoted from linebackers coach when Vance Joseph got the Broncos’ head coaching gig (life comes at you fast).

Presumptive head coach Brian Flores has reportedly chosen former Patriots assistant Patrick Graham to come with him to Miami as his defensive coordinator.

The Miami defense had some injuries last season, but they were pretty bad, finishing with these league-wide totals:

  • 29th in total defense (391 yards per game)
  • 27th in scoring defense (27 points per game)
  • 21st in passing defense (245 yards per game)
  • 31st in rushing defense (145 yards per game)
  • 28th in opponent third down conversion (42.9%)

Burke is 42 years old and the Miami job was his first as a defensive coordinator. I’m not exactly sure what his role will entail in Philly.
