Report: NBA League Office Looking Into Possible Ben Simmons and Lakers Contact

I thought this story was dead when Elton Brand more or less squashed it a few hours ago, but then this popped up from Adrian Wojnarowski:

To rewind, Magic Johnson told reporters in Philly yesterday that Ben Simmons had expressed interest in working with him at some point in the summer. MJ, a Hall of Famer, also happens to be a Los Angeles Lakers executive, which would make the whole thing shady, tamper-ish, and collusion-esque.

Elton Brand responded today by saying that he was asked to authorize a future meeting, but said no.

He also spoke with Woj, after the jump:

Woj went on to correct the typo in that third tweet, which should say, “we’re not sweating this, end of story.”

And they shouldn’t sweat it, because while it was a story this morning, it now seems like a nothing burger.

REPORT: this isn’t likely to happen anymore since nobody showed up on several occassions…

“Several times per year we will hold subscriber-only events at local establishments where you can hang out with writers and contributors and find out about all the stuff we can’t post.”

RIP Jim McCormack. Hope you still have your phillies jacket

“Jim has written about fantasy sports for ESPN for 10 years. He’s a numbers geek, funny, and owns an iconic Phillies throwback jacket from Mitchell & Ness.”

So you’re saying the CrossingBroadcast that’s recorded twice monthly isn’t subscriber-only content? Well shit, I’ve been had!

  • So as an owner your not allowed to talk to another player February 11, 2019 at 6:41 pm

This is much ado about nothing. Tampering is offering a future contract to a player. When a player is free agent he can do what he wants. If an owner makes a public statement saying Ben would look good in a Lakers uniform then he should be penalized. How about when owners and players are all together at the ESPY’s. How about if a player goes to a taping of Shark Tank.
