In what could be the world’s most obvious coordinated media leak, or just coincidence, Eagles’ Vice President of Player Personnel Joe Douglas has been mentioned as the front runner for the Jets’ GM gig by nearly a half-dozen typically dialed-in NFL media types.

Douglas interviewed with the Jets yesterday, as they continue a process that included meetings with the following candidates:

  • Saints Director of Pro Scouting Terry Fontenot
  • Seahawks Co-Director of Player Personnel Scott Fitterer

Bears Assistant Director of Player Personnel Champ Kelly is set to interview today, so even if Douglas does ultimately get the gig, I wonder if the announcement won’t come until tomorrow or Wednesday.

The wording is varied, yet consistent, in various tweets and reports, with Adam Schefter referring to Douglas as “the presumptive favorite” for the job:

Friday, Mike Lombardi, who has a good source somewhere in the Jets organization, claimed that “everybody tells me it’s Joe Douglas” for the vacant opening.

After the jump, Manish Mehta calls Douglas “Adam Gase’s choice” to take over:

Hmm… how else can we say it?

Here’s another version, using the phrase “as is widely expected” –

Of course all of the these reports could be total bullshit, but these guys are typically dialed in, even Lombardi, who will forever get zero respect in Philadelphia for his Doug Pederson comments. But fact of the matter is that he was ahead on the Jets’ front office debacle before most people knew what was going on.

Anyway, as of Monday morning, everybody tells me that Joe Douglas is the presumptive favorite and Adam Gase’s choice to become the next General Manager of the New York Jets, as is widely expected throughout the scouting community.
