The Philadelphia 76ers and Guangzhou Loong Lions (Chinese Basketball Association) jointly announced today that the two teams will play a preseason game on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at The Center. Philadelphia will host Guangzhou in the 2019 preseason on the heels of participating in NBA China Games 2018 in Shanghai and Shenzhen last fall.

“Following our games in Shanghai and Shenzhen last fall, we continue to be inspired by the millions of passionate 76ers fans in China,” said Scott O’Neil, CEO of Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment. “This preseason game against the Guangzhou Loong Lions is another example of our continued efforts to connect and engage with the dedicated and passionate basketball fans in China. Moreover, we will be proud to host one of the Chinese Basketball Association’s marquee teams in Philadelphia, in a matchup that will advance our efforts to use the world’s game to bring people together to cheer, smile and appreciate the incredible players who will grace the court.”

“The Loong Lions are a Chinese professional basketball team that looks to expand its influence to the international stage, and participating in NBA pre-season games is an important means in this initiative,” said Zhong Naixiong, owner of the Loong Lions: “We are honored to have the opportunity to play against one of the NBA’s top teams, the Philadelphia 76ers, during the upcoming NBA pre-season, and hope to take this opportunity to not only improve the Loong Lions’ on-court product, but also to learn about the finer points of team management from the 76ers and further improve the club’s international competitiveness.”

This marks the third consecutive preseason in which the Loong Lions will take on an NBA team, having faced off with Washington in both 2017 and 2018. Former 76er and Loong Lion Marreese Speights posted 41 points in the Oct. 12, 2018 matchup with the Wizards, while teammate and former Arizona standout Kyle Fogg tallied 20.

Broadcast information will be announced at a later date.

Mo Speights was the 16th pick in the 2008 NBA draft. He had a good season in China and is actually attempting an NBA comeback, working out on the west coast it would appear.

Here he is dropping those 41 points on the Wizards last preseason:
