Claude Giroux's NHL 20 Rating Has People Crying Foul
EA Sports began to unveil their NHL 20 Top 50 list on Tuesday, leading Flyers fans to wonder how many of their favorite players would make the list. Not a single Flyer made the #50-41 list on Tuesday, setting the stage for Wednesday afternoon’s reveal of the #40-31 list. The first and only member of the Orange & Black to make the Top 50 thus far is captain -and recent father– Claude Giroux, who came in at #32 on the list:
Best friend of @GrittyNHL, @28CGiroux carries a 89 OVR in #NHL20 and is tied for the top faceoff rating with a 95! The @NHLFlyers captain is #32 on the #NHL20Top50! pic.twitter.com/n1zD3ZWhM7

An 89 overall rating seems a bit low, though some would argue the drop to 85 points might have had something to do with Giroux not breaking the 90 overall threshold. The better argument for Giroux being underrated was truly warranted when he debuted with the same rating in NHL 19 coming off a 102 point season.
Fan reaction to his overall rating and top faceoff rating of 95 made for some good old fashioned back-and-forth between league fans:

I can easily see him at 91. Come on EA hire some real scouts to do the paperwork for you. 🤷🏻♂️

Easy one of the best face off guys in the league. I’m surprised he doesn’t have a higher overall though.

The real question I have is whether or not we’ll see another Flyer make it into the Top 50. If anyone has a shot to do it, it would be the team’s top line center Sean Couturier, whose two-way play makes him arguably the Flyers’ best overall player. We’ll find out soon enough.
